Former UCLA Bruins coach Rob Jarvis joins IMG Academy Track & Field and Cross Country staff
BRADENTON, Fla. (March 11, 2014) - IMG Academy has announced that UCLA Bruins track & field coach Rob Jarvis has joined its Track & Field and Cross Country program as an assistant coach, specializing in combined-events and jumps.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to work within a leading organization like IMG Academy alongside Loren Seagrave, one of the sport’s most revered coaches,” said Jarvis. “I am looking forward to applying my knowledge and experience at the highest collegiate ranks to helping develop and prepare athletes of all ages for the next level.”
Jarvis, a native of southern California, brings extensive experience at the NCAA Division I, NAIA and international levels. Jarvis spent the past four years at UCLA helping the Bruins combined-events group emerge as a premier program in NCAA Division I competition. Under his tutelage, athletes went on to earn seven NCAA All-American honors and win nine NCAA West Region qualifiers. Jarvis’ athletes have scored 18 times at Pac-12 Conference meet, with one qualifying for the IAAF World Championships. Prior to joining UCLA, Jarvis led NAIA powerhouse Azusa Pacific University (now a member of NCAA Division II) for five years as the team won a combined eight national championships (five men’s, three women’s). While there he mentored seven individual NAIA National Champions and a combined 49 NAIA All-Americans and 10 All-American relay teams.
As an athlete, Jarvis first attended San Diego State University on a football scholarship from 1997-99. During the 1998 season, the Aztecs were WAC Pacific Division Champs and secured a berth to the Las Vegas Bowl. After injuries curtailed his football career, Jarvis transferred to Azusa Pacific University (APU) to compete for their track and field team, serving as a team captain and helping the team to two NAIA national team titles and three GSAC conference crowns. While at APU he was a member of a NAIA National Champion 4x400 relay team and earned four NAIA All-American honors. He is recognized on APU's All-Time Top 10 List for the 400m, 4x100, and 4x400.
“Rob brings tremendous collegiate competitive and coaching experience to the IMG Academy Track & Field program,” remarked Loren Seagrave, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, IMG Academy. “As we continue to build our program, Rob is going to play an integral role in the development of our student-athletes.”
IMG Academy announced the addition of a Track & Field and Cross Country Academy program for aspiring student-athletes in May 2013 to time with the opening of IMG Academy Stadium featuring state-of-the-art track and field facilities. Since opening, the Stadium has already emerged as a world-class destination for track and field competitions. In December, the NCAA selected IMG Academy as its host venue for the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In addition to its Academy and camp program for student-athletes, IMG Academy has long been the training home of professional track and field athletes including the 2008 400m Olympic gold medalist and 2013 IAAF World Champion in the 400m, LaShawn Merritt, as well as 2012 4x100m relay Olympic gold medalist and 2014 IAAF Indoor World Championships bronze medalist in the 60m, Tianna Bartoletta.
