Isinbayeva To Make U.S. Debut At Millrose Games

Isinbayeva to make U.S. debut at 100th Millrose Games

Glamour event of indoor track will mark centennial on Feb. 2

NEW YORK CITY (Dec. 14) – On Feb. 2, 2007, many of the best track-and-field athletes in the world will run straight into the history books as they compete in the 100th edition of the legendary Millrose Games. Headlining the field will be Yelena Isinbayeva, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, World Champion and World Record-holder in the women’s pole vault.

Add dozens of past champions and Millrose legends on hand to be honored that evening and the centennial celebration is shaping up as one of the most star-studded events in Madison Square Garden history.

Isinbayeva, the 24-year-old Russian twice named the sport’s World Athlete of the Year, is the first woman to vault over 16 feet (5 meters), an epic moment in the sport, and has broken the World Record 19 times so far in her career. The 100th Millrose Games will mark her long-awaited North American debut.

The oldest continuing sporting event held at Madison Square Garden, the Millrose Games has touched generations of sports fans, uniting them in a yearly ritual that has hosted the greatest names in track-and-field history, among them Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Eamonn Coghlan, Mary Slaney and Carl Lewis.

Producing the event in conjunction with USA Track & Field is Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc., an athlete-representation and events firm based in Boston that owns or operates track-and-field events in Boston, New York and Los Angeles.

The 100th Millrose Games, the second stop in USA Track & Field’s Visa Championship Series, will be held Feb. 2 at Madison Square Garden beginning at 6 p.m. For tickets or more information, visit www.Millrose-Games.com. Tickets are also available at
Ticketmaster (call 212-307-7171, visit www.Ticketmaster.com or at Ticketmaster outlets); or at the Madison Square Garden box office.
