Men's 1500 Meter Results
Final
The backstretch crowd (includng
the gregarious Aggies) was hollering and ringing cowbells in anticipation
of the 1500. They were treated to a fantastic race.
The pace was honest, with
Krummenacker leading a tight pack through 400 in 58.63. The pace stayed
constant into the homestretch approaching 2 laps to go until Richie
Boulet took the lead, stretching the pack out and passing 800 in 1:56.95
with Jennings a few meters back and Pyrah and Lassiter in close tow.
Heading into the turn with
600 to go, Jennings moved to Boulet's shoulder and took the lead halfway
into the turn. With the crowd now roaring, Jennings quickly opened up
a gap as the Lassiter, Krummenacker and Pyrah moved up on Boulet, Krummenacker
moving into second.
Jennings hit the bell in
2:39.3 and looked full of run. He hit 1200 in 2:53.2, giving him a third
circuit of 55.8. He powered down the backstretch in 13.8, began to tie
up, closing in 29.1, but holding on to win in an Olympic "A"
qualifer of 3:35.90.
Heading into the turn, Pyrah
surged past Lassiter looking very strong. He closed a bit on Jennings
around the turn, but began to slow in the straight. Stember, 4th with
200 to go, really began to move off the turn.
Down the homestretch, Pyrah
was clear for second. Lassiter began to tie up and Stember, the local
favorite, slowly creeped by Seneca, as Jason Lunn made a mad rush in
the final stretch. Pyrah's final time was 3:36.70 with Stember just
missing the Olypic "A", running 3:37.04.
Lunn finished 4thin 3:37.24,
with Holman (who has an Olympic "A" time should Stember fail
to crack 3:36.80) finishing 5th in 3:37.36.
