Women's Shot
Seilala Sua, who won the
discus on Friday, added the shot title, doubling successfully as she
did twice at the NCAA Championships ('99 and '00) while a collegian.
A cold drizzle dripped from a gray sky, wetting the ring, throughout
much of the competition.
Sua, who has been throwing
the shot just once a week in training this season spun out a PR 58-11
1/2 in round 5 to take the lead from 12-time champion Connie Price-Smith.
Price-Smith responded immediately,
albeit unsuccessfully, hitting her best of the day, 58-8 1/2, in the
same frame.
In frame 6, Sua came up just
short of her new personal best at 58-10 3/4.
