Women's High Jump
A chill rain greeted the
women high jumpers, and Amy Acuff handled the soggy conditions best
to win her third USATF title and first since 1997, as the only jumper
to clear 6-2.
Erin Aldrich led the competition
after the second (and second to last) height, 6-1/2, which the former
Texas Longhorn cleared on 2nd attempt. Acuff and Stacy Ann Grant were
the only others to negotiate that setting, each needing three tries.
Acuff went over 6-2 on her
second try. Aldrich garnered 2nd place on fewer misses.
Only four other jumper, including
Olympic Trials winner Karol Damon, cleared any height at all--the opening
setting of 5-10 1/2.
