Discus
Final
Seilala Sua fought back from
4th position (and two fouls) after her first three attempts to win her
fourth USATF discus title--complementing the 4 NCAA titles she won as
a collegian.
After opening at 192-8, the
UCLA alum moved into 2nd behind former Bruin teammate Suzy Powell (whose
207-8 best came in round 2) in the fourth round with a 199-4 toss.
That throw was enough to
surpass Aretha Hill's 196-9, but Sua had to squirm a bit as Kris Kuehl's
205-7 in round, followed by yet another Sua foul, pushed her back into
3rd.
On her last attempt, the
2000 Trials winner spun one out to 207-10, and that was that.
"This is the first competition
where I had to throw with emotion this year," said Sua, who was
less than ecstatic. "I need to work on that a lot. I have a lot
to work on. I want to be ready for the World Championships."
