Women's 800
Final
Regina Jacobs nailed down
the second half of a 1500/800 double in a race where Olympic Trials
winner Hazel Clark set the pace.
With the 37-year-old Jacobs
close behind, Clark passed 200 meters in 28.3, 400 in 59.14 and 600
in 1:29.8.
However, Jacobs swept past
entering the homestretch for a 2:00.43-2:01.15 win.
Third-placer Jen Toomey moved
up from 5th or 6th to 3rd at 600 and then hung in for a 2:01.28 PR.
Jacobs 800/1500 double has
only been accomplished once before in U.S. championships history. Marie
Mulder won the 800 in 2:11.1 and the 1500 in 4:36.5 in 1965.
