Women's 200

Final

Surprise-surprise-surprise. Marion Jones cruised to her fourth consecutive USATF 200 title. On a wet track against a cold 1.6mps headwind, Jones ran 22.52 to turn back U.S. seasonal leader Latasha Jenkins (22.88) and Kelli White (22.93).

Jones had raced to a comfortable lead by the finish of the turn. She appeared to tighten somewhat as she neared the tape.

Jenkins sprinted off the turn in 2nd, and when Tennessee alum White drew almost even with her 20 meters before the line, the former Ball Stater was able to hold her off.

The 24-year-old White, whose previous best nationals finish was 5th in '99 (though she was 2nd at the indoor nationals in March), has emerged in the last month as a true force on the international sprint scene--notably with a 10.99 clocking for 100 meters in Athens two weeks ago.
