Final

Breaux Greer chucked the javelin 267-11 on his first throw and never had another competitor within 20 feet. In round 4 Greer uncorked a personal best 278-7 to set new meet and Hayward Field records, surpassing marks held by ultimate 2nd placer Tom Pukstys. He improved on his already record-setting day with a final round throw of 279-7.

Throwing in his last nationals Tom Pukstys tossed 244-4 on his sixth throw to grab 2nd. 3rd went to Eastern Illinois athlete Ron White at 238-7. The knowledgeable Hayward Field crowd of more than 9,000 showed their appreciation for both Greer's impressive tosses and the long and fruitful career of Tom Pukstys.
