WOMEN'S LONG JUMP FINAL
With Marion Jones passing
up the long jump for all of 2001 and Dawn Burrell out with a season-ending
knee injury, the phrase "wide open" readily applies to today's
final. But that's where experience comes in and veteran Shana Williams
claims loads of it, nationally and internationally. A PR of 23-0 puts
her well ahead of the field.
Last year's NCAA champ, Jenny
Adams has a 100 hurdler's speed to go along with Tom Tellez-coached
technique. And reigning collegiate champ Brianna Glenn is no slow-poke
herself-having also won the NCAA 200 the day after she won the LJ three
weeks ago in Eugene.
Possibles to slip into the
top 3 are Grace Upshaw (21-2 3/4 PR this year) and former USC jumper
Pam Simpson (21-11 1/2 best).
