Women's 10,000
Deena Drossin is going to
win. Anyone want to take the field on that bet? She is simply the most
dominant long distance runner in the country now, and with the pregnancy
of Libbie Hickman and the injuries to Anne Marie Lauck, the race is
a done deal. The interesting thing will be to see how hard she runs,
considering she might double back in the 5K the next day to go head
to head with Marla Runyan.
Jen Rhines will most likely
be second, which might be a moot point anyway, since she is the only
runner besides Drossin to have the World Champs qualifying standard
(28:00.00).
My pick for third is Kristin
Chisum (née Beaney), who always seems to be fit when it counts.
The ageless Sylvia Mosqueda and Kim Fitchen could step up, as could
Milena Glusac, who's been hot on the roads. Weather should be a bit
cooler than for the men's 10K, so fast times could be on tap, especially
since this is the only real chance for those other than Rhines and Drossin
to get a qualifier.
