WOMEN'S 100 PREVIEW
Defending world champ Marion
Jones is running only the 200, since she has to earn her place there.
Reigning 200 champ Inger Miller contests just the century, since she
gets an automatic pass in the half-lap. After an 11.09w victory in her
heat, Miller looks like the favorite to regain the national century
crown she won in '99-in Eugene.
But it will be close, especially
since both veteran Chryste Gaines and Olympic teammate Torri Edwards
sped 11.10 to win their heats (Gaines with legal wind, Edwards illegally
aided).
A trio of collegians could
break up this veteran group. Three-time NCAA champ Angela Williams,
collegiate runner-up Shakedia Jones and NCAA 200 champ Brianna Glenn
could slip into the top 3 but it would take a flawless run, as well
as no hindering headwinds.
