Men's Discus
'99 World Champion Anthony
Washington has apparently dropped off the face of the earth. He's got
a bye into the Worlds, but isn't competing here so won't be in Edmonton.
John Godina, who won the
shot yesterday, is perhaps in his best shot/discus shape ever and could
repeat here. In 1995 the legendary Parry O'Brien won a shot/discus national
title double. Who would have thought it would take 33 years for someone
to turn the trick again? In 1998 that person was Godina. Today, he should
do it again.
Looking to challenge Godina
is the rejuvenated Olympic Trials champion Adam Setliff. Winds at Hayward
Field should prevent any big throws, but the competition will be fierce.
Andy Bloom, 4th in yesterday's shot, should be anxious to make the team,
but has not been in great discus form as of late.
The talent drops off after
the big 3, but Doug Reynolds could sneak in with a big throw. Ex Boise
Stater Jarred Rome leads the youth brigade.
