Tonie Campbell Men's Track and Field Chair Candidate Statement Dear USATF family members, In less than a week we will all gather once again for our annual meeting in beautiful Daytona Beach, Florida. As I have announced previously I am running for Chair of the Men’s Track and Field Committee and I need your support and vote. My opponent believes the most important job of the Men’s Track & Field Chair is running the National Championships and Olympic Trials. While without question, these two events are paramount in the preparation of many of our elite athletes, these two very important events as well as the Junior National Championships, cross country, race-walk, masters and long distance events are not conducted nor run by merely one person. The Chair of MT&F must be an individual that is most importantly an effective leader that includes all in the process and surrounds himself with the most capable individuals and those willing to learn and become part of the process. He or she must also work with others that do not share his vision or are reluctant to follow. Finally, the Chair of Men’s Track & Field must be an expert at simply listening to the others, the athletes and coaches, of which this sport truly belongs and is open to the change and innovation they demand. While many believe in maintaining the “status quo” and continuing business as usual, I believe in change and progression towards an exciting and new future. In my term as Chair, I promise inclusion and openness. I will gather the brightest and most passionate individuals to humbly serve along side of me. I will invite all to participate and I will create a fair and objective process that gives everyone a chance to take part in our national events and install a logical non-bias path to serve on our national team staffs. If you’re ready for change, true change, then I need your vote on Friday November 30th at the general session of Men’s Track and Field.
