2012 High School Boys Athlete Of The Year: Tyreek Hill
Only once before has the voting for T&FN’s HS Boys AOY been as close as it was this year, with sprinter Tyreek Hill, No. 1 in both the 100 and 200, edging vaulter Shawn Barber by 2 points. That equals the margin from ’78.

Hill, the first sprinter to win since ’05, got 7 No. 1s compared to Barber’s 8, but he fared slightly better in the lower going in forging his tight victory. No. 3 choice Aldrich Bailey got the other 5 nods for 1st. Hill, who missed the national record in the 200 by just 0.01, is now at Garden City CC in Kansas, playing football, but plans to run track come spring.
