Explaining The Records With each section of records there is a small section clarifying record procedures and explaining symbols used. Note that in all categories of Records except American (and American Junior), marks made indoors are eligible for record consideration if the "outdoor" criteria are met.
Altitude Although neither the IAAF nor USATF officially recognize the concept in their record-keeping, altitude plays a very significant part in aiding the sprints, hurdles and jumps. Accordingly, in all sections we additionally list low-altitude records in those events if the actual record was made at an altitude of more than 1000 meters (3281 feet).
