Eugene Looking For Volunteers For The World Juniors
(press release)

EUGENE, Ore. – This summer, an estimated 1,600 track and field athletes from around the world, age 19 and under, will arrive in TrackTown USA for the IAAF World Junior Championships.
For many, it will be their first trip to the United States.

You can help ensure that their experiences, and those of the visiting coaches, team officials and spectators, will be a positive one as a member of the most visible team at the meet – the volunteer workforce.

If you’ve been a volunteer in the past, or have been thinking about becoming one for the first time, today (Monday, March 10) marks the first opportunity to sign up and offer your services for the six-day IAAF World Junior Championships, July 22-27, at historic Hayward Field.

“Our volunteer workforce is the largest and most recognizable team at our championship events,” said TrackTown USA president Vin Lananna. “Every year, our volunteers have left a lasting impression on athletes, officials and spectators alike. It’s a great way to take part in the historic tradition of TrackTown USA.”

This is the first time that the IAAF World Junior Championships have been held on U.S. soil.
The goal is to sign up 900 volunteers for this historic event in a variety of capacities: athlete hospitality, event operations, accreditation, bicycle valet, guest services, media services, doping control, transportation support and others.

To get involved, go online at gotracktownusa.com/volunteers.

At that point, you can create a volunteer profile and browse the various positions available for the IAAF World Junior Championships. All volunteers will receive apparel and hospitality during their work day. Please note that all volunteers must be at least 15 years old and sign up for a minimum of four shifts.

The new online registration module also serves as the volunteer sign-up for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 11-14, and the 2014 Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon on July 27.

After visiting the site, direct any questions regarding the IAAF World Junior Championships to volunteers@gotracktownusa.com or call the TrackTown USA office at 541-343-6129. Any questions regarding the Eugene Marathon can be directed to volunteer@eugenemarathon.com or call 541-345-2230.
