Distance Star Ed Torres Retires At 29

Multiple all-America distance runner Ed Torres, half of one of the best-ever pairs of running brothers, has announced his retirement.

Torres, 29, now lives with his wife Lynda in the Chicago suburbs where he and older twin Jorge first came to prominence at Wheeling High School in the late 1990s.  Ed and Jorge have started a business in which they engrave medallions immediately after races for participants who want that added memento.

The twins represented Reebok.  Jorge continues to run and made the U.S. 10K team for the 2008 Olympics.

“I have no regrets,” said Ed. “I had a great time and had great opportunities to travel and meet people.  I accomplished most of my goals although making the Olympic team got away from me.

“I did the best with my capabilities and abilities. It was well worth it.”

Torres expressed his thanks to his wife, his parents and Jorge as well as to his first coach, Greg Fedyski, who died last summer, as well as to Steve Jones and Colorado coach Mark Wetmore.
