CHERUIYOT BEATS MASAI
NAIROBI (KEN, Jan 23): At Police CC Championships at Ngong Race Course 5000 m world champion Vivian Cheruiyot beat 10 000 m gold medalist from Berlin Linet Masai. Third place for Grace Momanyi. Army Forces championships at Kahawa Garrison saw Ines Chenonge winning the women race ahead of Linet Chepkurui and olympic 1500 m winner Nancy Lagat. Mark Kiptoo was here the male number one beating Vincent Kiprop and Kiprono Menjo. Favorite and Bekele beater Joseph Ebuya did not feel well and did not finish the race.
US INDOOR ROUND-UP FROM FRIDAY
BATON ROUGE: Reigning world indoor champion Lolo Jones opened the season at LSU Purple Tiger Invitational meet with 8.14 in heats. Next weekend she runs in Glasgow and Karlsruhe. Zedric Thomas as first this year achieved exactly 8 meters in long jump. After injury returning olympic medalist Walter Dix clocked 6.62 at 60 m.
FAYETTEVILLE: Reigning long jump world champion Brittney Reese opened her indoor campaign with 642 effort at Razorback meet. Trey Harts achieved 21.07 at 200 m and Tiffany Townsend 23.37 in women 200 m.
BLACKSBURG: 20 years old Torrin Lawrence posted new College record at 300 m with 32.32 at Hokie Invitational meet. Keith Ricks (19, but not a junior) improved at 60 m to 6.65. NCAA Champion Lakya Brookins had 7.29 at 60 m and Queen Harrison achieved 8.04 at 60 m hurdles. Former olympic and world finalist Hazel Clark (32) bettered her indoor 600 m PB to 1:28.87.
ALLENDALE: Johnnie Drake clocked 6.68 at 60 m during Eubanks Open meet.
NEW YORK: Jamaican Edino Steele posted good 46.83 at Albany Classic Meet using the Armory track.
LUBBOCK: Nigerian olympic long jump medalist Blessing Okagbare leaped to 659 at Texas Tech Meet in long jump. Russian olympic 4x400 medalist Anton Kokorin clocked good 1:09.20 at 600 yards. His mark is Russian best and second in the all-time European list at this only in US staged distance. Fastest European is Latvian Dmitrijs Milkevics who clocked 1:08.67 in 2004. Kokorin represents now South Plains team.
LINCOLN: Olympic and world medalist Canadian Priscilla Lopes-Schliep after last weekend flat start opened at 60 m hurdles with 8.21 in heats and 8.12 win in finals at NWU Invitational meet.
BLOOMINGTON: Briton Scott Overall improved his indoor 3000 m PB at Gladstein Field House to 7:51.36. US Jordan Horn registered also nice life-time best as second with 7:52.45.

SPLIT (CRO): Jutarnji list informs that for the International High Jump meeting on February 21 bonus of 20 000 Euro is confirmed for breaking the world indoor record. This motivation should be orientated mainly towards local hero Blanka Vlasic who has this meet as one of the highlights of the indoor season. Spaladium Arena is expected to be sold out again. “Blanka will be greatly motivated to best possible result by Split audience. NEW YORK (USA): Race Results Weekly informs that US steeple record holder Jenny Barringer signed with New Balance. According to RRW she was the most sought after female distance runner to leave the NCAA ranks since Shalane Flanagan in 2004. Barringer’s agent, Ray Flynn, had taken her on the road to meet the management teams at most of the major shoe companies. Barringer plans to marry fiancée Jason Simpson next October.
NEW YORK (USA): LiveScience.com writes that, humans could perhaps run as fast 40 mph, a new study suggests. Such a feat would leave in the dust the world’s fastest runner, Usain Bolt, who has clocked nearly 28 mph in the 100-meter sprint. The new findings come after researchers took a new look at the factors that limit human speed. Their conclusions? The top speed humans could reach may come down to how quickly muscles in the body can move.

SPALA (POL, Jan 22-23): Polish junior indoor champion at 60 m is Grzegorz Zimniewicz with solid 6.76. Olympic finalist Artur Noga opened in special 60 m hurdles races with 7.95 and 7.88.
