MASAI FOR CC, CHERUIYOT FOR DOHA
LONDON (GBR): Long distance Kenyan track female world champions will have different ways early next year. 10 000 m gold medalist Linet Masai will aim for the success at IAAF World CC Championships in Bydgoszcz, end of March. The 5000 m winner Vivian Cheruiyot will concentrate at 3000 m during World Indoor Championships in Doha. That was confirmed by their agent Ricky Simms. Cheruiyot will debut at World Indoors and so far has only two undercover races in her career (3000 m wins last winter in Valencia and Birmingham). Masai never competed indoors, but is improving yearly at World CC events. She was third in 2008 and second in 2009. But both will have one common aim in the summer. Try to run a fast 10 000 m race.
SCHEDULES FOR AMBASSADORS: ISI IN EUGENE, BEKELE IN DOHA
MONACO (MON): IAAF Diamond League meetings announced the distribution of event disciplines during the inaugural 2010 season. The series has 32 event disciplines each of which will be showcased in their own IAAF Diamond Race and will be held six times plus the final either in Brussels or Zurich. For contracted ambassadors the schedules for next summer are so clear. Some of the meetings will see top stars for the first time. For example Yelena Isinbayeva will compete for first time at legendary Pre Classic in Eugene, Sanya Richards and Kenenisa Bekele are scheduled to run in Doha in the series opener. Australian Pole Vaulter never competed before outdoors in New York, the same for Javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen. In summary Pole Vault world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva will compete in Doha, Rome, Eugene, Gateshead, Monaco, Stockholm and finals in Zurich. High Jump diva Blanka Vlasic will be seen in Doha, Oslo, Rome, Paris, Stockholm, London and finals in Brussels. Male Pole Vault olympic winner and world champion Steven Hooker can look forward to Shanghai, Oslo, New York, Lausanne, Paris, London and finals in Brussels. Norwegian javelin ace Andreas Thorkildsen is scheduled to throw in Oslo, New York, Lausanne, Paris, Stockholm, London and Brussels. Ethiopian running star Kenenisa Bekele should be in Doha, Oslo, Rome, Eugene, Gateshead, Stockholm and Zurich. Finally World Female Athlete of the Year Sanya Richards has it clear with Doha, Oslo, Eugene, Gateshead, Stockholm, London and Zurich. More complicated is the situation with male sprinters trio. Asafa Powell has it clear with 100 m in Doha, Oslo, New York, Paris, Stockholm, London and finals in Brussels. Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay committed to seven races, but a mixture of 100 m and 200 m and so their schedule will be known later.

DONETSK (UKR): On December 4 the IAAF Senior Vice-President Sergey Bubka celebrated his 46th birthday. In an interview with Ukrainian media he was quoted as saying: “I am remembering my grandmother, she was an orthodox believer. She learned me to pray, although during my children time we lived in religious faith non-friendly environment. Today, when in our country exists freedom in this sense, I am always trying to visit the church, put candles and pray to the Lord.” Bubka who is multiple pole vault world record holder also confirmed that the principles of sport and life in good faith are very similar.
ISTAF SECURED FOR AUGUST 22, 2010
BERLIN (GER): German agencies are confirming that the oldest and best one day German meeting ISTAF of Berlin is secured for 2010. The 69th edition should happen on August 22 what is a Sunday. Meet Director Gerhard Janetzky confirmed that after successfully finishing the negotiations with ARD TV station. The meet will be held again at Olympic Stadium on the blue track and as part of newly created IAAF World Challenge series. Janetzky also confirmed that for sure in the program included will be men´s discus (Robert Harting) and women´s high jump (Ariane Friedrich).

NEW YORK (USA): US world bronze winner from Berlin at 1500 m Shannon Rowbury plans to compete at Boston Indoor Games and US Championships during the indoor season. She said that in an interview with Runners World. She did not mention World Indoor Championships in Doha. About two US meets in the IAAF Diamond League she said: “ I don‘t too much about the outdoor schedule. I haven‘t really looked at it yet very closely. I‘m glad that they‘re trying something different. I‘m glad there are going to be some bigger U.S. meets. I like the timing of Pre coming after U.S. Championships. We‘ll see how it turns out. It‘s so hard to know, until you get in the midst of it, what works and what doesn‘t. But I‘m excited about trying something new.”
STOCKHOLM (SWE): Swedish reigning 400 m European Indoor Champion Johan Wissman will pass the coming indoor season. That was confirmed by website of Swedish Television. “I have competed in every championship since 2001 and I want to concentrate on the summer European Championships in Barcelona,” he was quoted.
AMSTERDAM (NED): The board of Dutch Athletics Union, following legal advice confirmed that it will not challenge the CAS ruling in the Simon Vroemen case. The Netherland´s steeple runner is so finally cleared of the doping allegations about the use of an infusion during the European Championships in Sweden in 2006. There was no evidence that the infusion has not complied with the doping rules. Vroemen was later in 2008 positive after a race in Cottbus, Germany where he achieved the Olympic standard for Beijing. In this case a ruling is expected soon.
HONG KONG (HKG): Former olympic and world gold medalist Liu Xiang of China is ready to compete at East Asian Games this week in Hong-Kong. That was confirmed by Chinese media after his last check-up on Saturday. A year after Liu had surgery on his right Achilles tendon in Houston, his US doctor, Tom Clanton, arrived Shanghai on Friday to check on his star patient. After reviewing scans of Liu‘s foot and watching him train on Saturday, Clanton, who performed the operation on Liu, said the foot had fully recovered and he could resume intensive training. Liu also plans to run at World Indoor Championships in Doha.
CALI (COL): Walker Luis Fernando Lopez who was fifth at World Championships in Berlin at 20 km and female sprinter Darlenys Obregon were voted Colombian Athletes of the Year 2009.
FRANKFURT (GER): German Julia Viellehner will be not able to travel to European CC Championships in Dublin due to injury (stress fracture). She will be replaced in women team by 24 years old Saskia Janssen. Viellehner won this fall both main cross country races in Germany in Pforzheim and Darmstadt.
BERLIN (GER): German fifth placer from Olympic Games 2004 at 20 km walk Melanie Seeger plans a comeback after baby-break. The 32 years old mother of daughter Helena wants to compete next year and continue until 2012 Olympic Games in London. Her best is 1:28:17 from 2004 and she was also in the past twice in the top ten at World Championships.
LAUSANNE (SUI): The month of November saw a crossover between the end of the road running season and the increase in the number of Cross Country races which made for a busy month. Many nations held trials for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships which will take place in Dublin on Sunday 13 December. Following this, European Athletics is pleased to announce these athletes from 13 countries have been nominated for the European Athlete of the Month award for November. The voting will close on Monday 14 December at noon CET.

NORTH SHORE (NZL, Dec 5): 1997 discus world champion Beatrice Faumuina opened her athletic season with a qualifying throw in the discus for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. As New Zealand federation website writes, competing at the Battle of the Cities meeting at North Shore’s Sovereign Stadium in far from ideal conditions, she achieved 56.09 to beat the standard by 9 cm. Faumuina, the Commonwealth gold medallist in the discus at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur and the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, said that she was extremely pleased with her first outing of the season.
SAN GERMAN (PUR, Dec 5): Colombian Caterine Ibarguen scored 5742 points at University Championships in Puerto Rico what is her new heptathlon lifetime best.
KOSA (JPN, Dec 6): In Japan living Kenyan Martin Mathathi clocked excellent 44:52 to win the 34th Kosa 10 miles road race. Writes RRW.
MEMPHIS (USA, Dec 6): Kenyan Jyoncel Basweti won the St. Jude Memphis Marathon after 2:16:21 new course record. As RRW points out it was his sixth marathon of the year. Ethiopian Teklu Tefera Deneke was second in 2:16:40. In women´s category Kenyan Salome Kosgei clearly beat (2:43:42) Russian Lyudmila Pushkina (2:51:11).
NOVOPOLOTSK (BLR, Dec 1): Excellent December mark by European U23 Champion Yuriy Shayunov in hammer throw with 79.31 during Vadim Deviatovskiy Meeting in Belarus. Observers are saying that one of his throws a foul was clear over 80 meters and that Shayunov in top shape is expected to come close to 85 meters next summer. Second Pavel Krivitskiy achieved 76.91 and third Latvian record holder Igors Sokolovs 74.31. Elena Matoshko was the best woman with 66.04. Throwers of all ages competed in 12 categories.
MONTREAL (CAN, Dec 5): Korean sprinter Cho Kyu-Won improved national 60 meters record in Canada to 6.74.
