RADCLIFFE WANTS A CHILD IN 2010
LONDON (GBR): Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe said that she will not wait until after the 2012 Olympic Games to have her second child. Her goal to attack the highest position at the games remains. Her first child, daughter Isla was born in January 2007 and Radcliffe plans to have second baby in 2010. That would mean that she would miss Barcelona Europeans and New Delhi Commonwealth Games. She missed because of injury these years main competitions, London Marathon and Berlin World Championships. She returned as fourth in New York City Marathon early November. Writes BBC Sport.
GEBRE AT FIFA DRAW
ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Long distance legend Haile Gebrselassie travels this week to South Africa‘s Cape Town to assist at the FIFA World Cup draw on 4th of December. The organization announces today the extraordinary sportsmen that will assist Secretary General Jérôme Valcke at this important night for the 32 countries competing at the FIFA World Cup next year. The multiple Olympic and World champion was invited as the organization described him as one of African continent‘s most celebrated and decorated athletes of all time. Gebrselassie will be joined on stage by sport celebrities as David Beckham, Makhaya Ntini (first black player in the South African cricket team), John Smit, (captain of Rugby World Champions South Africa) and Bafana Bafana player Matthew Booth. Gebrselassie feels honored to be invited and looks forward to the gala night. The Final Draw is beamed live to an estimated audience of more than 350 million people in more than 200 territories. During the show several famous African artists will perform and it will include the world premiere of the handmade 3D animation of the official mascot Zakumi. African beat will echo through the draw while the show will reach a fitting climax in the moment when the 32 teams will know whom to play when.
BOLT NOT CONFIRMED FOR NEW DELHI
LONDON (GBR): Indian Commonwealth Games officials were embarrassed when Usain Bolt denied he had promised to compete at next year‘s event in New Delhi after they had assured Commonwealth leaders he would be there. Insidethegames.biz informs. Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of the local organizing committee, had announced to a high-powered audience, including Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, at the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) in Port-of-Spain that Bolt would definitely be running in the Indian capital in the event that opens on October 3, 2010. But Bolt has now claimed that it is far too early for him to now, whether he will make the trip to India. Ricky Simms, his British-based manager, said:
„I‘ve spoken to Glen Mills [Bolt‘s coach] who confirmed that no decision will be made about Usain‘s participation in the Commonwealth Games until May-June 2010 when he starts racing in the Diamond League.“
FRIEDRICH IN KARLSRUHE AND ARNSTADT
KARLSRUHE (GER): European indoor high jump champion Ariane Friedrich was announced as first headliner for the IAAF Indoor Permit BW-Bank meeting (26th edition) in Karlsruhe on January 31. The 206 jumper will have identical bib-number with 206. „My preparations are going very well indeed, and I‘ll happily wear that number,“ Friedrich said. „How high I‘ll ultimately jump, we‘ll just have to wait and see.“ Last winter she cleared in Karlsruhe 205 her indoor personal best. Her appearance comes during what Friedrich, who‘ll celebrate her 26th birthday on 10 January, describes as „the toughest time in my life.“ The jumper is currently in the examination phase of her studies to become a Police Commissioner. „Sleep, study and train,“ is how she describes her routine these days. If all goes according to plan, she‘ll arrive in Karlsruhe two days after her swearing-in ceremony which will result in a star at her uniform. Meeting director Alain Blondel announced that not only will the women‘s High Jump be a main focus of the meeting‘s 26th edition, but the men‘s Long Jump as well with quality home competitors but it should be noted that it remains unclear whether Sebastian Bayer will compete indoors. Likewise a strong German contingent can be expected in the men‘s Pole Vault as well. Blondel has also added to the program a special debut, indoor 4x100m Relay to celebrate the surprise bronze medal by the German women‘s team at the World Championships in Berlin. VLASIC IN SWEDEN
GOTEBORG (SWE): In other high jump announcement the organizers of European Athletics Indoor Permit meeting SamsungGalan in Goteborg confirmed that at their event the current world number one Blanka Vlasic of Croatia will jump. She won in Scandinavium Hall in 2007 and 2008 and was missed due to injury in 2009. The date for the event is February 2. Also in the plan is men´s triple jump with returning olympic 2004 winner Christian Olsson and special triathlon for male multi-eventers.
MERGA PLANS WORLD RECORD ATTACK
HEERENBERG (NED): Sunday´s 14th Wincanton Montferland Run in Netherlands will see a world record attack at 15 km on the road. Ethiopian co-world record holder Deribe Merga with 41:29 as split from Ras Al Khaimah Half-marathon this February wants to improve the mark. In 2001 also Kenyan Felix Limo achieved that time in Nijmegen at Seven Hills race. The course record holder is the great Haile Gebrselassie who clocked here 42:36 in 2007, in the past also Kenenisa Bekele won the race in 2001. Another top runner will be talented Tilahun Regassa of Ethiopia who won recently the Great Ethiopian Run. Women top name announced is olympic marathon winner Constantina Dita of Romania. Women´s course record is 48:32 by Ethiopian Bizunesh Bekele who clocked 48:32 in 2005.
JOHNSON BELIEVES IN 42 BY BOLT
KINGSTON (JAM): US 400 m world record holder Michael Johnson (43.18) with BBC crew present in Jamaica was quoted by media as saying that Usain Bolt could be able to run 42 seconds at 400 m. Johnson also said that he will have to develop his strength-and-speed endurance to achieve that.

AULNAY (FRA): Already this weekend top French pole vaulters headed by European indoor champion and six meters jumper Renaud Lavillenie will compete indoors. The Dynamic Aulnay Club is organizing on Friday and Saturday the 10th edition of special Pole Vault meeting. Also scheduled to jump are Damiel Dossevi, Jerome Clavier and ever young 1996 Olympic winner Jean Galfione. British guest is Steven Lewis, 7th placer from Berlin who improved in 2009 to 575 cm. His team-mate and UK record holder Kate Dennison (460) is the star of women contest. In total around 300 pole vaulters in different categories are expected to compete during the two days. DUBLIN (IRL): Re-elected Irishman Pat Hickey as president of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) was quoted as saying that sponsors are interested in European Games concept. Next month Hickey who is president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, will receive the Legion d‘Honneur in Paris in recognition of his contribution to Olympic sport in Europe.
BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Former champion Mo Farah will lead the British challenge for medals at the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin this month. Dave Martin writes. Farah winner of the title three years ago was chosen even though he did not contest the trial race in Liverpool last Saturday where the first three athletes earned automatic selection. Instead the north Londoner who returned from altitude training in Kenya eight days ago, decided to run against world class opposition outside of Dunkirk finishing fifth in a very close finish. BARCELONA (ESP): Representatives of all sponsors of the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 are participating at a workshop in the Caixa Forum. The B10 marketing and promotion department gets together with all - local, national and international - sponsors for the second time. The first meeting took place in July, only few days before the Míting Ciutat de Barcelona. Main objective of the workshop, which is assisted by Barcelona 2010 general coordinator, Monica Barra, and Lars Kaiser, European Athletics marketing director, is to present the promotion plan, which will be executed from now until the end of the Championships, to the sponsors. Organizers are saying in a release.

INDIANAPOLIS (USA): USATF informs that after 11 years of service, USATF Managing Director of Business Affairs Jim Elias has announced his resignation. He will continue with the organization through the end of the year. Elias has served USATF in numerous capacities, including as CFO, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Business Affairs. He has led USATF‘s financial management and human resources teams, provided oversight of events and broadcasting, negotiated contracts and been a key advisor to the CEO.
LONDON (GBR): Insidethegames.biz writes that UK Athletics have announced a four-year partnership with Jaeger, the British fashion brand. Jaeger will reward international athletics medallists with formal wear from the fashion house‘s seasonal collection and provide business wear for UK Athletics‘ key board members. World Championship medallists, including heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis and 800 meters bronze medallist Jenny Meadows, attending the UK Athletics Awards Dinner, to be held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Saturday (December 5), will be the first athletes to benefit from the partnership, attending the event in Jaeger formalwear.
NEW YORK (USA): The New York Road Runners announced via their website that the fifth edition of the popular NYC Half-Marathon will take place next spring instead of the summer. The previous four editions of the race had been held in July and August. The race in 2010 will be staged on March 21. Writes Race Results Weekly.

SINGAPORE (SIN, Nov 29): Solid sprints at 71st International Singapore Open Championships. Chinese Taipei´s Yi-Wei Chen clocked 10.42 (equaled his PB) to win the 100 m and together with his colleagues also won the 4x100 m in 39.77. Informs Heinrich Hubbeling.
