No Olympic Attempt In The Offing For Favor Hamilton

Bookmark and Share Suzy Favor Hamilton’s 40th birthday will come on a most significant day: August 8, 2008, which is also the Opening Ceremony for the Beijing Olympics. But the two-time Olympian will not be part of the team.

The Wisconsin native ran her last races in ’04 (the last a 2nd-place finish in her Olympic Trials 1500 heat; subsequent to that a bad hamstring kept her from the OT final, and she DNFed in Zürich later in the summer), but there was constant talk in the interim that she'd be back for one final shot.

But she has now confirmed for T&FN it’s a dream not to be:

”I will not be training for the Olympics this year. With all my past injuries I am finding it very difficult to continue on with the training.

”Things are going well and I am enjoying life after sports.  I am selling real estate with [husband] Mark and also doing public speaking for coaches’ clinics and companies to motivate employees to a healthy life style and really enjoying it.

”I am also working on developing more running camps for high school kids. Running has had such an amazing impact on my life; I want to share that with others so they can also experience the joys of running.’’
