Mighty X-Men Update

I am sure many out there have been wondering about the fate of the Mighty X-Men, Charley Lonewolf's (age eleven) soccer team that, in a "break up the Yankees" movement after last years 19-0 season was scattered among four league teams after building a glossy five year 183-2-2 record. (The irony being that as five year olds, they were all rejects from other teams when the league was formed)

Predictably, the league leveled out at a bunch of 9-5 and 8-6 teams for the fourteen game summer/fall season. They also played a couple of tournaments.. I dont know who won those.

For the season ending State Tournament featuring top teams from OKC, Tulsa, Enid, Lawton,Woodward, Norman, Yukon and Mustang, five of the original eight X-Men and nine of the twelve on the last undefeated team were quietly reassembled.

OKC beat Tulsa 1-0 in the final.

The bad news: after scoring the only goal, Charley was deliberately and flagrantly knocked out of the game, either out of frustration or on orders, by a kick to his knee cap on a planted foot. The Tulsa player was ejected but the damage was done. Charley was on crutches for a week.. he insists he is ok now but still looks a little less aggressive to me..

This is the first year they played on a full size field, which looks to me to be too dang big for eleven year olds..

Bump. Whadda ya gonna do?

After going 7-0 in the first half of the double round robin indoor season, the (mostly) re-united X-Men have been asked/told to not play the second half of the season because they won all their games by embarassing margins, even though they sometimes loaned the opposing team their better players in blowouts.

In fact, the X-Men only gave up three goals in seven games, two of them by X-Men on loan against their own team. The kids say it is confusing to remember which team they are playing for at the moment when they keep changing jersey going in and out.

These boys are 11 turning 12 and have been playing up a year since they were nine. Now they are trying to find a league to play in.

The upside is, I don't have to get up for any more 0700 Saturday games.

The really good news is Charley Lonewolf was cleared to return to action for the last five games after being sidelined for six weeks by a concussion suffered when he was mugged going up for layup after stealing the ball. He had to remain absolutely inactive, no reading, TV or physical activity for two weeks, was allowed to return to school after CAT scan but still having headaches/double vision and no physical activity. After another round of neurologists and congnitive exams he was finally cleared to play soccer but no basketball yet. He got pretty tired the first game back but says he is 100% now..and plays like it.

As to soccer can they just play in some rec league against adults? Sounds like a waste of their time playing with the kids their own age.

One problem with changing leagues is the winter indoor schedule is set so I guess they will just get some rest before outdoor starts in March.
They have been playing up one age group since they were eight. They are now 11 turning 12. Up to now there has not been a difference in size/maturity level . Some of the 12s are pretty big kids but the 14s are BIG kids.
