High School Shot Put Record ProgressionDoes anybody have the high school shot put record from the time Leon Patterson of Taft High School,CA when 60 feet until Michael Carters 81+ foot throw. Thanks in advance.
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionPretty sure the progression went:
Bill Nieder (Lawrence, KS)60' 9.25" May 16, 1952 Leon Patterson (Taft, CA) 60' 9.75" May 24, 1952 Don Vick (Chaffey, Ontario, CA) 62'5.25" 1953 Dave Davis (Canoga Park, CA) 62' 7.5" May19, 1956 Ray Locke (Barrington, RI) 62'7.75" May24, 1956 Homer Robertson (Pacific, San Bernardino, CA) 63' 9.5" June 2, 1956 unless Robertson threw one earlier to beat Davis and Locke to Vick's record (very possible) Clark Branson (Pasadena, CA) 64'0.75" 1957 Dallas Long (North, Phoenix, AZ)3 times in 1958 66'1.5" March 8, 67' 2" April 12 69' 3" May 16 Karl Salb (Crossett, AR) 69' 7" 1967 Sam Walker (Samuel, Dallas, TX) several times in 1968 ending up at 72' 3.25" Michael Carter (Jefferson, Dallas, TX) several times in 1979 ending with 81' 3.5"
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionThanks for the list! I always though that Leon Patterson was the first to go over 60 feet although both he and Bill Neider did it in the same year.
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionRobertson might have been the first 60-footer earlier in the season. I just have their season's best.
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionHomer Robertson could not have been the first over 60 feet as he made his best mark in 1956 while Patterson and Neider did it in 1952
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionApril 19, 1951, Bakersfield--Patterson 60-0.25, breaking Darrow Hooper's 59-10.
Patterson was T&FN's prep AOY the year before, throwing 59-2.5 as a junior.
Re: High School Shot Put Record ProgressionDamn! Are my fingers getting fat or what?
