Where could I find information as to the origins of high jump and the evolving methods of jumping?

See if you can get hold of Ken Doherty's "Track and Field Omnibook". It is all there. Scissor, Eastern Cut-Off, Western Roll, Straight leg Straddle, Dive Straddle, Lay Back Scissor (Clint Larson) + The Flop.
Best T&F book of all time if you ask me.
