Valerie Adams little brother - NBA Draft

Postby Tuariki » Wed Jun 26, 2013 3:55 am

Steven Adams is about to take over the mantle of the best known athlete in the family when he is likely to be a top 15 first round pick in the NBA draft on Friday. A long way from the 14 year old street kid of 5 years ago on the streets of Rotorua, New Zealand, with a one way pre-purchased ticket to prison waiting to be collected. Valerie's little brother is a huge and magnificently athletic 7'0" specimen who is a work in progress in terms of his basketball skills. Valerie has the Olympic golds and world championships. Baby brother Steven will soon have the dollars. And once he learns to play - he only started 5 years ago - he has the physical attributes to be a very good NBA player in the years to come.

Steven was the youngest of Sid's 18 children ... Steven's siblings and half-siblings are notable for their unusual size and athletic prowess. Adam's brothers average 6'9" (2.06 m), and his sisters average 6' (1.83 m)

Drafted 12th by Oklahoma. An instant multi-millionaire.

Big sister Val had a good day yesterday with a 20.88 and nicely tuning up for a PR in Moscow.

Val has all the honours and medals. Steven has all the money.

Congratulations to Steven. He has a lot of potential and an NBA body at age 19, but he still has some work to do on his game, like Tauriki's first post mentioned. He averaged 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game as a freshman at Pitt this year. Below is a draft scouting video showing some of his pros and cons.

Great posts. All the tools are there, the kid is a raw mega talent .. But basketball is still and always will be a high skill sport, raw talent is 1/2 the equation, necessary but not sufficient. The list of guys with all the tools that end up as flotsam and jetsam in the NBA is quite long.
