RIP Tim Keough, sub-9:00 w Rudy Chapa

Passed away of a heart attack on June 7. One of three sub-9:00 two milers at Hammond High in 1975, with Rudy Chapa and Carey Pinkowski. Supposedly he may have had the most natural talent of the three. Thread on letsrun:

Sad. I remember that trio well. Absolutely amazing that one school would have 3 sub-9 minute guys.

As a mid-distance guy who graduated from HS in 1976 I really looked up to these guys back in the day. A nice story on these three from the June 16, 1975 issue of Sports Illustrated: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/ ... AG1089953/

SI wrote:Record keepers are similarly impressed. "More than 668,000 boys competed in high school track this year," says Jack Shepard of Track & Field News, "and nearly a million times were recorded for the two-mile alone. The fact that three runners from the same high school were in the top four in May is hard to accept."
