1964 FAT data?

Postby johnclark » Sun Apr 28, 2013 5:51 am

FAT times for the Olympics have been published for the finals, but not, as far as I can find, for any other rounds of competition.

Its well known that Bob Hayes ran 9.91 in one of the semi finals for the 100 meters (with a gale behind him), but what about the other runners?

Anyone got those results?

If no where else, they're in The Modern Olympic Century, 1896-1996, by the late Ekkehard zur Megede.

No, I have no idea where you can get a copy.

I have all the FATs that are available for Olympic races from 1936-1972. In 1960-64 some of the race marks are not available. e-mail me at bill1729@gmail.com and I'll send you what you need. This stuff was researched by the late Bob Sparks, former president of ATFS, who had access to all the original photos.

Very good, Conor Dary, and that's exactly why it is part of my e-mail address - there's a lot of bill's in gmail. I'm impressed you caught that.

bambam, your sites have the auto times for the finals in 1964, but not the earlier rounds. Unless I'm missing something. Either way, awesome work that you guys did pulling all of that info together.

Thanx. I'll check that. Not all of the auto times for 1964 are available in the Sparks data. I sent John Clark my list for 1964 and it is leaner than other years.

Yes, its an excellent site, with only the 1964 FAT times from the earlier rounds missing - the link I posted above is the only thing I've found with those FAT times. If sports-reference could include this data then it would be complete for 1952-2012!

We're getting this fixed. The data was in our system but there was a coding problem with the database.
