Not to quibble on nomenclature, but having a 120cm (48") vertical jump in America means that he's displaced his CoG that much, not that he jumped up onto something (with legs fully tucked beneath him) that high. It's still pretty cool.

I don't have it verified, but a coach in Kamloops told me he saw Dylan highjump a pretty serious height as a grade 9 guy. If I had proof, I'd post the height.

There's a quote in this article indicating he jumped at HS, and may have got up to 1.90m:

he was also a high jump star when he wasn’t playing high school football. He cleared 1.90 metres – about his height – back when he weighed only 245 pounds.

I saw he him high jump 1.76 (5-9 1/4) when he was 14. He even did some Pole vaulting. I just saw him as a huge kid, bigger than anybody else in his age group.

I love that he uses his legs for lift like Oldfield (not Hoffa or Cantwell, who have very little 'crouch').

I am no expert, but I reckon if right now you put Tom Walsh's technique on Jacko's body the WR would be toast!

I was gonna say if you put Jacko's speed/technique on Cantwell's body, you've got a WR!

Konrad Bukowiecki (97) did 22.33 with the 5k today in Warsaw. That puts him at no. 5 on the all-time youth list.
I'll be waiting to see whether he can confirm this sort of form soon, because frankly, the result looks so good as to raise doubts. His best until now was 20.54 indoors this year, and in today's competition, his second best put was 20.61...

Jacko will attempt WC qualifier on July 20, but may not go even if he gets it. The injured foot is still not 100%. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/ar ... d=10895248

Jacko changed his mind and threw 6k instead: 21.95m 21.80m 22.22m 22.12m 22.32m 22.28m

A PR by 0.01 but still 0.41 short of WJR.

Jacko Gill throws a PB by 1cm in the 6kg shot at a meet in Brisbane, 22.32m.

Says he doesn't want to try to qualify for the WCs wih the 7.26kg, but wants to get Storl's WR of 22.73m before his time as a Junior is up.

He's lucky in that he'll have no trouble finding meets to throw in Down Under come the end of the year, so he's got lots of time left.

But given Aaron's concerns expressed icon the recent Hasay/Erdmann situation will Aaron accept any performance that is not set in a genuine competition. In Jacko's case there can be no genuine competition in the junior shot because he is so far ahead of anyone else - and not just in NZ. :mrgreen:
Hopefully I will get to see it live if Jacko lands it out beyond 23m later this year.

Damnation. Didn't get to see it. Too busy writing up an immigration appeal. Weather in Auckland today was supposed to be pouring rain but it turned out cloudy but dry and reasonably pleasant temperature wise. Barring injury, Jacko is still looking good for 23m before he turns 19.

Reports on Twitter that Jacko Gill has thrown 23.00m today. Timely given that David Storl's record was broken a day after he won gold at the World Champs.

That is correct. First throw, got progressively shorter after that. At least one of the warmup throws looked longer. I'm guessing the next target is to beat 20.65 with the senior... :D

It should be a great competition in 2 years time with Storl v Whiting v Jacko. I would expect we will see the 20.65 mark go soon.

Converting by weight only (other factors are involved):
23.00 with 6kg = 25.35 with 12lb
24.77 with 12lb = 22.47 with 6kg

Converting by weight only (other factors are involved):
75' 5½" with 6kg = 83' 2" with 12lb
81' 3¼" with 12lb = 73' 8¾" with 6kg

7' 8½" increase for 2 lbs? Seems a bit much?

*edit: changed 24.77m conversion

Are my metric to english conversions inaccurate?
22.47m = 73' 8¾"
23.00m = 75' 5½"
24.77m = 81' 3¼"
25.35m = 83' 2"
According to <http://www.usatf.org/statistics/calculators/markConversions/>

No, your supposition that the conversions are in any way 'real' are. You have used math models, which, as we tried to explain to Eldrick, have little application to the human body's biomechanical realities.
