And the one with the quickest PR of all of them (Nicky Akande) seemed to have had a crappy race, as she is wont to do on occasion.

No wind info as yet!!

Here is the race. Looks like VCB thought she had the race and shut it down prematurely towards the end.

VCB is not in shape yet... she ran a very bad 400 (55ish) compared to her personal record of 52.24 and this obviously means her speed endurance is not at a good level yet. In the last years she seemed to have improved her 100 but, lacking endurance, her 200 became worse.

Your eyes are definitely deceiving you.

Veronica misjudged the race and slowed too early which allowed Nastasha to pass her. She tried to press at the end when she saw what was happening but it was a little too late. Nothing to worry about in an early season race.

She has not started her speed work yet. Just a training run.

Maybe your eyes are deceiving you because you're wearing jamaican glasses? Look at the runner in lane 6, also closing on vcb at the end, and easing up because you think you won looks different, it looks relaxed, vcb does not look relaxed. Did she tell you after the race that she hasn't started speed work yet? Or are you making up excuses?

Jamaican glasses are the best ones out there :D

VC ran a storming curve and was very relaxed coming home. Again, she misjudged the race and Natasha snuck up on here and VC tried to press a little at the end but it was too late. That is all there is to the race.

Don't worry, I am closer to VC than 99% of those on this message board.

The last point is likely the reason you can't see the fact that VCB simply was run down from behind. I don't think anyone is "worried" however what happened happened.

VCB looked distinctly average in that race running a time she hasn't race since her junior college days. With a 55+ 400m to her name its not a great start to the season. She's made no reference to any injury in her IAAF diary or her Twitter feed so things seemed ok. She looked healthy enough in the video, though the quality wasn't great. She had nothing from 80m to go.

We'll need to see her next race before writing the champ off.

Spend all your time in the USA watching her train then?

By the way, what happened to VCBs gold medal last year? Hasn't she started her speed work by the Olympics?

This doesn't concern "results"....but just noticed in the latest T&FN....on the "Status Quo" page....that Cayla Hatton has "reportedly" left Stanford.

Anyone know why?
Is she following Natosha Rogers lead, and quitting the sport?
Is she going pro?

That 33:17.28 10K she ran in a low-key college men's race last spring is # 2 all time on the HS list!!
Be sad if we're losing her great talent!!

I went to IAAF site looking for a wind reading from Bahamas meet this past weekend. Doc Patton's 10.09 (-2.0) converts to approx. 9.97 basic, pretty consistent with his 9.73 (+4.1) from the Texas Relays.

While at the IAAF site, and for a few days now, they have Courtney Okolo listed as a WL 22.36 W200, at the same meet in Nassau, finishing 3rd in her heat... So a PR by 1.5 seconds that no one's heard of, she finishes 3rd, but is the world leader?... and she ran a 23.66/52.52 at the Texas meet the same day. As mentioned in a previous thread, really gotta wonder about the IAAF website accuracy rate these days. Luckily, there's T&FN's lists we can always count on.

Still trying to find out.
The Stanford 2013 outdoor results show no Hatton results.
(Nor the indoor list.)
And she's not on their team roster anymore.

Soooooo...she's not on their team, but is she still in school there?
Has she quit the sport?
Can't find any notice of her leaving, except for T&FN's report last month!

If she has, then losing BOTH Natosha Rogers and Cayla Hatton is a HUGE blow to America's future distance prospects for women.
(Not a death blow....but significant!!)

It said Hatton left Stanford, not track. She went to Phillips Academy (a top private high school) and did not compete on a high school team. It might be that the team set up was not a good match for her (did she want a lot more independence in her training?).

Not sure who's running for the US at Penn, but according to this weekend's heat sheets, we'll get a first/second look at some potential guys running the open 400 at:
Mt. SAC: M. Mitchell, G. Roberts (and USC's B. Nellum)
MJ Meet at Baylor: J. Wariner, M. Boyd, Q. Summers (and GM's D. Verburg)
Tom Jones: T. McQuay, C. Smith, T. Gay

Ashton Eaton ran 20.76 (1.8) at Mt SAC.
Nellum ran 20.49, but with a 2.9 wind.

Jarred Rome threw the disc 204-2.

Remantay McClain ran 200 in 20.54 (1.9) for Azuza Pacific.

The reports of Cayla Hatton leaving Stanford are not accurate. I hear from a reliable source that Cayla has neither left Stanford nor the sport. She is on a medical leave for this term attending to health matters. Apparently she was dealing with multiple medical issues through the fall, even while having an excellent XC season.

Lolo Jones......12.80 (4.2).
Not too bad for her 1st post-bobsledding race!! :D

Deon Lendore.....45.00 (and winning by a full second!).
He's for real!!
But Aldrich Bailey doing only 47.39??

Goule has to be the NCAA favorite!
Next stop a sub-2:00??
