I feel this year (i.e., not in 3 weeks) he can be at
25.5 - 83' !!! +1.05 24.5 - 80' +2.20 23.5 - 77' + 1.2 21.0 - 69' + 0.68 (which sounds RIDICULOUS for an 18-year-old, but . . . )
That 2.20 looks out of place (and it still does not get to 81 feet).
Perhaps the reason the 2.20 looks out of place is because Jacko has never thrown the 12lb. Nowhere else in the world is the 12lb thrown except for the USA. However, the estimate of 23.3 ish is fair and reasonable.
Carters 81 feet plus is IMO far and away the most incredible HS performance and is the bench mark for Jacko to chase.
I reckon the Gill company should invite Jacko to compete in a Gill series against the best USA high schoolers/18 year olds in May 2013 with a goal of chasing after Carter's record.

Second the motion. I would actually throw money in the pot to support that!!
No records today. Jacko injured on first throw. He was slightly off balance as he planted his left foot going into the throw. Twisted his foot. Gone to medical centre for x-ray and treatment. Unlikely t throw again till after he turns 18 in 9 days time. His throw was a foul as he limped out of the circle to the side. The throw itself was approx 20.60 with the 7.26kg.
as a kid lifting alone in a vacuum, which Sydney Australia was in the 70's where we had 5 Ol bars in the city, some US colleges had twice that at the time, I can say lifting alone, makes one very serious about what one does, because you know it is only you who, no back slapping, no one shouting "it's all you", a great way for a solo athlete to prepare and learn to handle the adrenalin

Too true. Where I was there was one track, and you had to get approval to use it during the year. You become very hard headed.
Jacko has suffered another setback to his next competitive performance as the result of a dog attack to his face. I understand he has just been released from hospital after 2 or 3 days. Evidently, he tried to stop a dog fight and tried to break it up. I guess Jacko does everything in his life with little thought to the downside if things go wrong as they did in this case.
I believe his foot has been healing nicely which he strained in 3 places a month ago.
Looks like the dog might have a bit of a toothache.
While the incident is pretty terrible, the funny thing is it wouldn't surprise me if the enforced layoff is a good thing for Jacko (as long as it is not too long) and he comes back at the end of this month or early next month and throws a series of PR's.
Konrad Bukowiecki (97) set a new Polish indoor youth record with 20.17 (5k shot). That's 1 cm farther than Krzysztof Brzozowski's best in this age category. Bukowiecki's outdoor best last year was 19.27.

Bukowiecki improved to 20.54 at this weekend's national champs. In the junior category, Andrzej Krzyżan took the title with 19.74.
I don't follow age stuff at all, so have no idea if significant, but we got this in an e-mail last week:
I'd like to tell you about a young shot putter named Joseph Maxwell. He's 14 years old and has been throwing competitively for two years. Last month Joe threw the 4 kg shot 21.0m in an Athletics Ontario competition in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Earlier in the month he competed up one level and threw the 5kg 19.10m in the 17-and-under class.
If he was 14 years old his throw is significant although he still has a bit to do to catch to the outdoor world best for a 14 year old with a 5kg shot is 20.42m by Jacko Gill. The 15 year old world best is 23.86m; also by Jacko.
The world best for the 6kg shot, are 17.41m for a 14 year old and 20.76 for a 15 year old. Both by Jacko.

There are still some places where 12lb is thrown outwith the US, although it isn't a championship weight any more. I threw 12.44m with 12lb in 1980. I think that 12lb was a school weight in Scotland for about 100 years (but I'm guessing, really).

New Zealand was the same when I was at school in the 1960s. The shot at school was a 12lb-er. But then New Zealand decided to join the rest of the world and go metric.
It seems rather strange to me that US High Schools still persist in using a 12lb shot when they have switched to metrics for the track. Mind you I would hate to see Michael Carter's record relegated to irrelevance by being made obsolete given it is far and away the greatest high school record on the books.

If the US went with a 5kg (11 lb) ball for the high school boys Carter's record would still stand... and I, for one, would very happy. Throw the 6kg ball at U20 meets.
