Now THAT is the way to run a race!!

Even if it is a PRELIM!!!

FOUR dudes under 4:00.....and a 4:02.04 does NOT make it to the final!! :D

4:00.5 would not make the final. While not slow, some guys who finished in 1:55/1:25 did not make the final.

These sit and kick races make me nuts.

Wow. Champs record, and now people will give Hill his due. As a footnote, Austin Mudd in third not only broke 4 again, but he has run all of his (final) miles under 4. Relatively small group with that distinction.

Lawi certainly did not sit and kick. :D

That reminded me of Bayi in the Commonwealth Game from 1970s.

Possibly a little residual left over from yesterday's heats/DMR for some.

O'Hara was trapped on the rail for about a lap while Lalang was opening things up. O'Hara had to slip out the back of the pack, then circle the field to start going after Lalang.

He pressed too hard and had nothing left for the last 300 or 400.

With the recent NCAA Indoors (Lalang champs record, Coburn's sub-4:30), Wanamaker Mile (Lomong meet record, O'Hare's NCAA indoor record), USA Indoors (Leer's 3:58 at altitude) and, of course, Mary Cain's record assault, the Mile has its best year to-date in years. Go Mile!

This might be my favorite story of the meet.

Minnesota's John Simons goes to the Alex Wilson Invitational last Saturday with a mile PR of 4:08 and change. He runs 3:59.32 in the B heat and is shocked beyond belief. Enough scratches on the national list get him into the NCAAs, where he then gets himself into the final and runs fifth.

Just another guy to All-American in one week.

Yea, the Alex Wilson meet is a fraud, the only ones that qualify have done so unfairly and do not do good at NCAAs. For instance, they cannot hold a candle to those who run great times a month earlier.
