Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board? My thread about Flo JO training for the 400 meter in 1996 has been deleted. Why? What is wrong with that topic. Since no one can tell me I will be reposting.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board? It was moved to the Historical section.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?as are all threads about those no longer with us.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board? Her name is not unspeakable on this board. If you look back, there was a discussion about her daughter wanting to be a singer rather than following in the family business.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board? The sad truth is that her name (like that of contemporary Marita Koch) is indeed all but unspeakable, because dickwads who choose not to follow the rules of the Board choose to say things that are not acceptable.
If you've doubts about what that entails, please check out the guidelines, or be prepared to hit the road.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
I don't think it's the posters fault if there is such a problem with virtually all the Women's World Records set in the 1980's and 1990's that it tragically humiliates the sport.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board? But it is the posters' fault if they don't or can't follow the guidelines of these message boards, which are rather clear, IMO.
By the way, her name is being spoken on the Historical board - maybe not all that exciting, but it's about Flo Jo nonetheless.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
Why were certain guidelines set? I completely understand not allowing random speculation but it's a tad ridiculous not being able to state well documented facts about the East German Athletes and widely accepted answers about many others in the 1970's and 80's on a Track and Field Website.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?the guidelines are simple and unambiguous. To quote:
<<4. The definition of "objectionable post" rests solely with T&FN. Be advised up front that sexist/racist material is 100% out of bounds. As are accusations/suggestions that athlete/coach X is or ever was involved with illegal drugs in any way. If any of the governing bodies have taken action against someone in this regard, then the gloves can come off. But if there's no official positive on the books, everybody is treated as 100% innocent.>> take it or leave it.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
They may be 'widely accepted', but they still are, of course, hearsay, and more importantly, sometimes (even if infrequently) wrong.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?Anyone who wants to talk drugs ad nauseum feel free to visit Letsrun. There is endless talk and accusations, etc. The owners even glorify the accusers at times, only recently doing a congratulatory bio on someone who accused Rupp and Solomon early this year after their early season performances. It is sickening and bad for the sport and unfair to the athletes. I am glad T&FN's policy is what it is.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
Amen.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
You can take it as "widely accepted" that there are legitimate doubts about athletes from all countries in all events from the mid-'60s on. And we'll leave it at that.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
There isn't really legitimate doubts about the vast majority of athletes. There are ridiculous doubts or ones not remotely based on evidenc, but those are different to being legitimate.
Re: Is Flo Jo's name unspeakable on this board?
Legally the former East German doctors have had action taken against them. The governing bodies haven't done anything. The law accepts what happened with East Germany but the Governing Bodies hide away. What about those situations? Legally it is legit. I'm not asking for a Letrun.com idiot policy and allow any childish doping allegation on any elite performance, And I've criticised the idiocy of that board constantly making doping accusations here before, but there are legitimate cases were it is known or has an significant documented issue about it. What's more it's not as if this doesn't impact the sport today, after all women make significantly less than men and a lot of that is the near impossibility for them to achieve or threaten world records. In those legitimate cases there should be no reason why discussion is supressed.
