Duel at the Armory: Hasay vs Cain

Postby aaronk » Sat Feb 16, 2013 12:44 pm

It could turn out to be a dud, but it also might be one of the THE most fascinating duels (one-on-one's) of tonight's Millrose Games.
Mary Cain, the current HS phenom, vs Jordan Hasay, the former HS phenom.
I know, there are several others in the race who could beat BOTH of them.
But they could also LOSE to both of them.

Hasay says she's ready to PR, and Cain's coach says she's ready to run 4:25, far faster than Hasay has ever run.

Yes, this could be the CLASSIC duel of the meet!!

P.S. I almost feel sorry for Hasay......losing her records to Cain, and now in danger of being beaten by someone five years younger!

"I'm really excited to see her break all these records," Hasay said. "I think Mary is a little bit better than I was at that time. People might say I would be upset if she broke my records, but I'm thrilled. I couldn't be happier."

i have reid winning the race

2012 was a downyear for her

she seems back to 2011 form, where she won ncaa 1500 and 5k with her kick

i like bowman 2nd as i think she'll stick closer to reid and cain will sit back a bit too much and rely on her kick

d'agostino is dangerous
her solo run of 4:34 can be faster

if the pacers do their jobs, hasay should get a pr which is 4:33

cain will kick last 200 can be anywhere from 3to 5th based on how smart she runs

With Salazar prediction of a 4:25.....okay, maybe NOT a "prediction"--more a suggestion.......I'm thinking the pacers might take it out in 65, possibly 64+, then hit maybe 2:12 at 880.

If Cain runs 66-2:14 or thereabouts, she'd be on track (pun intended!!) to run that 4:25 with her kick.

One fear I have is the crowded field!
13 runners!!!
On a 200 meter track, 13 runners could be ASKING for someone(s) to crash!!!

the questoin is 4:25 NOW or is it when she is peaked in july

she's not in 4:11 shape yet

she needs the speed work, so it's hard for me to believe 4:25 tonight

i thin 4:30 is closer to what will happen

4:07 1500 in ukraine

from the armory bronxville just finished 3rd in 4X8 without cain

http://branchsportstech.com/2013_Meets/ ... lts9-1.htm

9:12:94

if cain ran in place of 2:19.62 leg she would have needed 2:07 leg to set a MILLROSE record

2:07 is what she ran indoor against ajee wilson, twice

Last minute (and maybe INSANE!!) prediction just prior to the race:

1. Reid.........4:25.78
2. Cain.........4:26.15 (4:09.50 at 1500)
3. D'Agostino..4:28.40
4. Bowman Brown.....4:29.05
5. Hasay........4:29.22
6. Coburn......4:31.09
Then Infeld and Tomlin at around 4:34-35!!

Anyone get Cain's 1500 time??
I HOPE Millrose timed them at that mark!!

If so, Cain now has broken SIX High School Records this indoor season....
and TWO of those were HERS!!!!

4:09.50?
That makes her final 109.1 meters only 18.75!
She finished in 16.67 in her 4:32.78!
More than 2 seconds slower?
Was she dying at the end?
Did she jog across the line?

Whatever the case, she now has broken SIX HSR's indoors!!!
Unprecedented!!

BTW, here's some more stats from the race:

Cain is now #6 American All Time indoors in the mile!!
Coburn now #5 on the All Time Collegiate indoor list!
D'Agostino is #6 on the All Time Collegiate indoor list!

Cain's time, as an 11th grader in High School, would rank THIRD All Time on the Collegiate list!!
Cain's 1500 time of 4:09.50 is NUMBER ONE on the All Time Collegiate list indoors......IF she'd been a collegian!!

What an incredible meet so far. HS record for Cain, A surprising win and an American record in 600 meters by Sowinski, American Record for Lagat and a legendary HS record of 49 years comes down finally by Cheseret. Shows how impressive Lindgren was in HS. Hopefully some additional great performances to come!

I realize there are many other things to talk about from Millrose, but could someone tell me who is Erik Sowinski. Can't keep up with everyone, and this is a name I've never heard. Thanks in advance. :)

Also, thanks to kuha for the "glass 99.99995% full" statement-- well stated! :D

Don't know much about him but he is listed last year as having run 1:45.90 (2nd at NCAA meet for Iowa as a senior). 11th fastest American runner in 800 last year.

From the Iowa site

http://www.hawkeyesports.com/sports/c-t ... rik00.html

Kinda surprising that he's 'only' a 46.8 guy. Must not run it much. I bet he has a low 45r somewhere.
