It could turn out to be a dud, but it also might be one of the THE most fascinating duels (one-on-one's) of tonight's Millrose Games. Mary Cain, the current HS phenom, vs Jordan Hasay, the former HS phenom. I know, there are several others in the race who could beat BOTH of them. But they could also LOSE to both of them.
Hasay says she's ready to PR, and Cain's coach says she's ready to run 4:25, far faster than Hasay has ever run.
Yes, this could be the CLASSIC duel of the meet!!
P.S. I almost feel sorry for Hasay......losing her records to Cain, and now in danger of being beaten by someone five years younger!
"I'm really excited to see her break all these records," Hasay said. "I think Mary is a little bit better than I was at that time. People might say I would be upset if she broke my records, but I'm thrilled. I couldn't be happier."
Last minute (and maybe INSANE!!) prediction just prior to the race:
1. Reid.........4:25.78 2. Cain.........4:26.15 (4:09.50 at 1500) 3. D'Agostino..4:28.40 4. Bowman Brown.....4:29.05 5. Hasay........4:29.22 6. Coburn......4:31.09 Then Infeld and Tomlin at around 4:34-35!!
Cain is now #6 American All Time indoors in the mile!! Coburn now #5 on the All Time Collegiate indoor list! D'Agostino is #6 on the All Time Collegiate indoor list!
Cain's time, as an 11th grader in High School, would rank THIRD All Time on the Collegiate list!! Cain's 1500 time of 4:09.50 is NUMBER ONE on the All Time Collegiate list indoors......IF she'd been a collegian!!
What an incredible meet so far. HS record for Cain, A surprising win and an American record in 600 meters by Sowinski, American Record for Lagat and a legendary HS record of 49 years comes down finally by Cheseret. Shows how impressive Lindgren was in HS. Hopefully some additional great performances to come!
