Marvin BracyInto headwinds Marvin Bracy runs 10.68 in the prelims and then pulled up to win the final in 10.52 (w -2.2). He never looked good in the final. He did his usual exaggerated forward lean for the first 40m (head bent down), but didn't show his usual acceleration. At 85m he let off the gas and grabbed his hammy (definitely looked more like a cramp than a pull). He didn't show up for the 200 after running a 21.02 prelim into a 1.4 wind.

Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsI was hoping for a lower time from Arman Hall in the 400... but did win both 200/400 with 21.16 / 47.08. Any observations from your end Marlow?

Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsArman Hall won 400, 200, and anchored 4x400 in very dominant fashion. Head wind in straightaway.
Shayla Saunders,Boyd Anderson, won 100-11.63 and 200-23.64 to lead her team to girls team title.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsBracy's coach said the injury was more serious than he originally thought so he pulled him out of the 200.
It was pretty windy today. Yesterday was a better day and I think the 3A performances showed it, relatively speaking.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Looked like a very low 46 split on the 4 x 400. http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/248553 ... State-Meet
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsNick Uruburu, grade 11, Bartram Trail HS, 46.69 and 46.1r (according to Tommy Turner) in the 3a meet Fr. night.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
I had him 46.7 on the leg. The relay leg was one of the more controlled legs I've seen a HS kid run in that spot. He got the baton in 5th and just ran comfortably through 200m making up some ground but not a lot. He then turned it on into the turn and it didn't hurt that the Hallendale anchor went out too fast and gave him an opportunity to run him down.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
This kid is nothing short of amazing. He is unassuming like Jeremy Wariner, 5'11, 160, and yes, pale. His secret is even splits, which you hardly EVER see in HS (or college or pros!). He came from behind in the open 400 and then had 40m (not kidding!) to make up on the 4x4 anchor and got 30 of them on the final home stretch. Way cool way to end the meet. The win gave his school the State championship.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Even splits? Pale? When is moving to the 8?
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
thanks for the added post(s) - good stuff... here's the video of his races (open 400 at 1:07 mark and 4x4 at the 3:12 mark). http://www.fhsaasports.com/events/34242
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Uruburu's anchor at 3:18. Look how far back he is at 300m!!!!
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsAlso nice triple from Andres Arroyo, grade 11, Colonial HS - 1:50.9r (7:40.15 4x800 winner), 4:14, 9:19.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsHopefully, Bracy will be back in action soon...
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/highschool/track/os-hs-marvin-bracy-hamstring-injury-0507-20120506,0,3055425.story It would be nice to see him healthy at the Adidas Dream 100, against Whitfield, and the Jamaican Jazeel Murphy (10.27), etc.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsInterview on milesplit with his coach. Excerpt:
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finalsgiven this, it sounds like a dream even if he will even make the semis at the trials
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finalshttp://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-05-22/sports/os-hs-marvin-bracy-update-20120522_1_marvin-bracy-levonte-kermit-whitfield-der-renae-freeman
If Bracy doesn't run here, he's been invited to the Adidas H.S. Dream 100 in early June... But I'm curious on the details here if anyone knows any of the answers to these questions... How many 100m runners make the trials? Is USOT's 100m field size of "32" a ballpark number, or a max? http://www.usatf.org/events/2012/OlympicTrials-TF/entry/qualifyingStandards.asp Given Bracy currently does not have a USOT legal A-qualifier (his 10.25 is a "B" qualifier though), and there's 39 A/B qualifiers faster than his legal 10.25, is it possible he currently does not even qualify for the trials as of now? http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/images/stories/tfn_pdfs/2012_olympic_games-a-b_standard_athletes.pdf Just wondering if he's gotta decrease his time in the next few weeks to guarantee himself a spot at the Oly trials or not.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
under the chart in the link you cited is this <<For each event, the approximate field size (not the minimum) and number of rounds are shown>> They'd love to have the 100 held to 32 because that provides for a nice neat progression of 4 heats of 8, 2 semis of 8 and a final of 8.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finalsfrom T&FN's top headlines...
http://fl.milesplit.com/articles/86654-bracy-a-no-go-for-golden-south-classic So, if Bracy wants to run at the Oly Trials, he better hope for good weather and a good hamstring come the Adidas H.S. Dream 100 in early June... Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think his current 10.25 legal will make the approx. 32 field USOT cut (despite 4 wind-aided "A" qualifiers).
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
I am pretty sure that a wind-aided mark does not count as any sort of qualifier. I believe that qualifiers must be legal marks. Can someone confirm that?
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Probably not completely true. Let us say an athlete has a 10.00/2.5 and similar marks on several other occasions, all wind-aided. If they have no [good] wind-legal marks, this is a case where they might (and should) have the runner in the field.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Yes, that's where the appeal comes in. It's not impossible that someone coming back after missing a year could run a time well inside of 10.00, but with a 2.1 at their back. I think they'd be let it.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State FinalsPer USATF website: http://www.usatf.org/events/2012/Olympi ... ndards.asp
Wind-assisted performances will not be accepted for 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying. That doesn't mean that appeals can't be heard, but I wouldn't want to bet much on getting in with a wind aided mark.
Re: Bracy cramps at Fla State Finals
Agree... Last Oly Trials, there were 4 heats of 8 runners, exactly 32, which included 2 DNS. He's about #40 in line right now, so if he gets in, someone else gets bumped... so I wouldn't want to bank on any appeal process either. However, I'm not sure if the "B" or "Provisional" qualifiers are chosen strictly by time, or if the T&F Chairs have some flexibility in who they choose... anyone know?
Marvin BracyHe had to redshirt in football this year with the hamstring, but now he's ready to sprint again for the track team. Having seen him in person, the kid has an incredible start and acceleration. Looks like Herb Washington or Houston McTear. FSU can get him the speed endurance, so I can't wait to see what happens next.
Re: Marvin Bracy6.61 today at the Razorback Invitational
Re: Marvin Bracy6.54 at Tyson Invitational today. Whoa!
Re: Marvin BracyThat vindicates his 6.08 55m last year.
Re: Marvin BracyGreat.
6.54 means 10 low probably. And if he improves soon he will get sub10
Re: Marvin Bracy
He's been snake-bit in that his biggest races have always been wind-aided 2012-03-28 10.06w Texas Relays 2011-07-22 10.09w Pan American Jrs 2011-06-23 10.05w USATF
Re: Marvin BracyYes Marlow in his best races he had "bad luck" and were wind-aided by few.
He is ready for 10.0x this year. And soon i see him sub10
Re: Marvin BracyI really hope Bracy can stick with it, stay healthy and keep improving. Looking at the results, I see D'Angelo Cherry, who was a "freshman phenom" himself. With 6.52 and 10.04 back in 2009 but unfortunately never progressed.
Re: Marvin Bracy
Per IAAF, he is tied for 5th in the world right now. Not a bad freshman year so far.
Re: Marvin Bracy
D'Angelo Cherry is also 5'4. That's likely the ceiling for someone of his height. Look at Trindon Holliday.
Re: Marvin BracyGail Devers was not that tall (I just happened to catch the Gail Devers Story uesterday; pretty mediocre as a movie).
Re: Marvin BracyI'm talking about men. Devers is 5'3, which isn't too short for a woman. Who's the shortest man to legally break ten seconds? Andre Cason? Even Cason was relatively close to average height for an American man at his age.
