Re: preview for millrose 1 mile
Her perfect distance is actually 300m. She hasn't improved on her PB in 2012, she ran in the 52's for the 400 and 24.0x in the 200. I think with enough competition and the right environment/training partners she should be able to improve. This is her progression thus far is: 100 Metres Performance Wind Place Date 2011 11.77 +1.9 Sudbury 03 JUN 2010 11.88 +1.0 Ottawa 07 AUG 200 Metres Performance Wind Place Date 2012 24.06 -1.9 St. Catharines 01 JUN 2011 23.43 +1.8 Ottawa 07 AUG 2010 23.84 +0.8 Toronto (TTFC) 30 JUL 400 Metres Performance Wind Place Date 2012 52.69 Windsor, CAN 26 MAY 2011 52.12 Lille 08 JUL 2010 54.15 Moncton 03 JUL She will be 18 on March 27.
Re: preview for millrose 1 mileIt may be premature to ask this, and maybe no one should...ever....but, if Mary should improve on her HSR's in the 1500 and one mile at Millrose, and especially if she makes a major breakthrough....say, something under 4:13 and 4:30....then we might well ask whether it would be UNFAIR for Mary Cain to run in any more HS meets, even the championship post-season affairs!!
She is so very far ahead of anyone else in the 1500-2 mile range....and if she ran them, in the 800, 1000, and 5000 events also....that it would be like Dibaba in that Boston 2 mile. Dibaba's pacers gave up after just 1000. They couldn't handle her pace!! She lapped a couple of runners. She was HALF a track ahead of the pack at the finish!! It was like there were two races.... Dibaba against the clock....and the REAL 2 mile race!! (In THAT race, Cain finished SECOND!!) Without Sarah Baxter and some others showing their face indoors so far, it's difficult to say what the rest of the indoor season might bring. If no one else breaks, say, 4:42 in the one mile, or 10:00 in the two mile, or some equivalent times in the 800-1K or the 5K, I'm beginning to believe it would be unfair for Cain to be allowed to compete in HS track races this year!! I'm talking outdoors! It would be like that 2 mile in Boston..... Cain against the clock..... and everyone else WAYYY back!! It would be detrimental both to Mary's progress as a NATIONAL class runner, and to the possible psychological effects of girls being so far behind Cain.....despite being GREAT athletes themselves!! Think the NY Yankees playing their Class A minor league team!! But let's wait till we get to outdoors. Wait to see what happens in the four remaining weeks of the HS indoor season!! BTW, I'm well aware Cain is NOT racing for her Bronxville team!! But I'm talking mainly of the post-season NATIONAL HS meets, or ANY high school ONLY races. I believe Cain would still be eligible to run in the former, if she wanted to.
Re: preview for millrose 1 milelooks like brennan 2011 200 had a positive wind,
whereas her 2012 time had a negative wind agree with 300 looking to be her best current distance she should get stronger as she matures for the 400 i see where florida st got a good female hurdler NICOLE SETTERINGTON - Ontario, Canada • 100m Hurdles PR of 13.37 - set in June in OFSAA championships • Won Athletics Ontario Junior-Senior Championships in 13.98 in July • Runner-up at Canadian Junior National Championships in July heres the video of her 13.37 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBzgtkWDOo0 so canada has a couple young talents also i recall they have a sub 1:48 800 meter run who will go to school in canada
Re: preview for millrose 1 mileaarok raises valid points about what salazar should do with cain
one model is the ethiopian kid gebresalassie who won world youth 3k, and who has run a good number of diamond league meets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vwKwSiVmZY here's the 2012 lausanne meet won by cherono in 8:40 for 3k does salazar want to expose cain to europe or does he have more modest plans for cain i think prep for 2014 eugene getinng her 800 time lower that 2:03 is more beneficial 800 and 1000 outdoors would be the route i'd go dont forget ajee wilson is close by, so local east coast races between cain and wilson are quality for both of the, then do the diamond league ny mile follwed by prefontaine 800 and des moines 1500 trials might be the early outdoor schedule salazar probably knows what he'll do, just not telling us i'd not pursue 5k, as alberto already says 1500 is her sweet spot now
Re: preview for millrose 1 mileWOW!!
She's on the cover!! And that, after just TWO HSR's!! Does that mean she'll pull an "Alan Webb" and make the cover TWICE this year?? She now has FOUR indoor records....and might have SIX (two of them breaking her OWN records!!) by the time the April issue goes to press!! Will she even "out-Bolt" Usain?? ADDED: Let's hope she doesn't suffer the T&FN cover JINX!!
Re: preview for millrose 1 milei was hyping cain and wilson at eugene olympic trials last year
oddly cain was only eligible at 800, just missed the 1500 didnt bolt make the cover at 16 with his world junior gold ?? a sub 20 i recall
Re: preview for millrose 1 mileScanned the T&FN Archives a bit, and found the first Bolt cover to be the Sept issue of 2003.
This gets tricky!! He was born August 21st of 1986. That issue probably went to press in late July or very early August. Meaning Bolt was THEN 16 years and 11 months and change!! Looked for Mary Decker when she was 14 or 15, but she didn't make the cover then. (Though I think there was an article on her inside at that time!!) Thus, Mary Cain, at 16 years and 9 months (and about one week) MIGHT be the youngest athlete EVER to make T&FN's cover!! GH, do you know if there was anyone younger??
Re: preview for millrose 1 mileok, the front page has info on the 2013 world youth champ in the ukraine july 10-14
the usa trials are june 25-26 in edwardswille ill mary cain is eligible in 800, 1500, 3000 the schedule in ukraine would be far tougher than the 2 day illinois schedule would be as there are more tougher youth globally than in usa i think 2 atletes could enter for the usa per event in the 800 Mary Cain (Bronxville, N.Y.) 5-30-96 02:03.0 Raevyn Rogers (Kinkaid School, Houston, Tx.) 9-7-96 02:05.0 wwith 2:08 being 3rd for 1500 *Mary Cain (Bronxville, N.Y.) 5-30-96 4:16.11’i **Alexa Efraimson (Camas, Wa.) 2-20-97 4:23.4’ 3rd 4:25 THERE ARE SEMIS IN 800 and 1500 in UKRAINE FINAL ONLY IN UKRAINE 3000 *Mary Cain (Bronxville, N.Y.) 5-30-96 9:04.51 i **Bella Burda (Arlington, Lagrangeville, N.Y.) 9-16-97 9:45.6 i 9:51 is 3rd which of the 2 events will alberto have her run 800, 1500, 3000 NOT ALL 3...it might well be field in the events drives the pick for alberto
Re: preview for millrose 1 milefor the 800
IAAF World Youth Championship Qualifying Standard—2:13.50 Minimum Avg. Mark to Make World Youth Championship Final—2:07.27 i'd like cain to pursue the 800 option more speed she has better 1500 would be IAAF World Youth Qualifying Standard—4:36.00 Minimum Avg. Mark to make WYC final—4:30.27 for 1,500 (worth 4:50.30 for 1,600, 4:52.0 for one mile) she already has the 1500 standard 3,000 METERS (straight final) IAAF World Youth Qualifying Standard—9:53.00 (worth 10:38.8 for 3,200) Minimum Avg, Mark for Eighth Place—9:34.63 (worth 10:16.9 for 3,200) cain already has final standard, i prefer 800 option if for some reason she can get 800 standard 2:07 which i think is achieveable, do the 3k
