Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesHe ran 3:42.57 in the 1500m outdoors in 2008 when he was 17, but hasn't improved on that since. That 4:00.98 indoors is a good sign that he's finally returning to form.
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutes
Many Jamaicans regard that 3:42 as bogus. He did run 3:45.54 three years ago though. He did 14:18.58 for 5000 that year as he won the 1500/5000 double at our national high school champs
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesHow many Jamaican sub-4 men are there?
I can find Byron Dyce (3:57.34 NR from 1974)
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesIt is good to hear something about Campbell. I've been a bit worried about his progress.
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesDid Mark Elliot ever break 4, whether at LSU or after?
And didn't Iowa State have a good Jamaican miler during the glory years of the early/mid-90s?
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesI found one more:
Steve Green (1500m NR at 3.39:19 ran 3.59.6i in 1994) http://www.thepowerof10.info/athletes/p ... leteid=616
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutes
That's the former Iowa State guy I'm thinking of.
Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutesThis PDF that T&FN posted last year has a list of all sub-4 milers in history as of June 8, 2012.

Re: Jamaican runs mile in just over 4 minutes
Revealing the answer to be 3: Byron Dyce 3:57.34PR (and 1st ever sub4 of 3:59.6 on 16 May 71) Gawain Guy 3:58.21 12 Jun 83 (subsequently switched to US and 3:57.18 in 1987) Steve Green (as noted above, although he may have had UK citizenship at the time) So, the upshot is that Campbell would be first Jamaican sub-4 miler in almost 20 years if he breaks the barrier soon...
