A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain got 6!)This thread's title means: Will we see a record number of records broken--WR's, Collegiate, and HS--this indoor season??
Well, obviously, this depends on two main factors: Whether enough meets offer the events, and who gives them a try! Here's my take--the "possible" records, and 1 or 2 people who COULD break them...IF!! WR--men 60......Blake, Bolt (probably won't race indoors) 200....an easy record for the "B" boys from Jamaica.....IF 800....Several candidates to break Kipketer's mark.....ALL from the OG race!! 1000....Will they (see 800) take a shot?? 2 mile....Only if the top tier guys run it!! 60H.....Merritt's 12.80 translate to a sub-7.30?? TJ.....Taylor or Claye here. Maybe Tamgho?? Hept....Eaton again?? WR--women 200...Can Felix best Ottey's mark?? 400...Kratochvilova's 49.59 is 31 years old!! SRR?? A Russian?? 2 mile.....Defar could get her own record, IF.... 5000....Ditto here!! Add Kipyego, Dibaba et al. 60H......Pearson, Harper, Wells?? HJ....Chicherova, one of the Americans? PV....Will Isi best Isi?? Suhr breakthrough?? Collegiate--men 1000--a vulnerable mark....would take a 1:48.00 with a 31.52 last 200 5000....Lalang gets his own mark?? Wt.....Is Colin McCullough in college?? Best bet!! Collegiate---women 60......English Gardner 200.....Kim Duncan? 1500....Hasay, in her final collegiate indoor season? 5000....Hasay here too, but hopefully on a 200 meter track!! HJ.....Barrett!! PV....LeLeux?? HS---men 1500/1 mile.....Several guys close to 4:00! Any breakthroughs?? 3K/2 mile/5K.....Edward Cheserek!! HS--women 400.....Baisden?? 800/1000/1500/1 mile/3000/2 mile/5000........ALL of them vulnerable.....IF the "biggies" race indoors!! (Meaning......Cain, Baxter, Meier's, Frazier etc etc!!) 60H.....Dior Hall, Kendell Williams HJ....Gabby Williams! Last edited by aaronk on Sat Mar 09, 2013 7:08 pm, edited 3 times in total.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?SAFP - 60m
We have unconfirmed reports tat she intends to run indoors this year.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
I assume you mean Conor McCullough and I think the answer is no. He's not listed on the Princeton roster, and I didn't see any indication in the WTAG section of the January T&FN that he has transferred to another school.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
Not necessarily. He was not much ahead at 60m in that 12.80 race, but then he really exploded over the last 3-4 hurdles. I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't count on it either.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?what will be a record this indoor season is the scarcity of world class meets. i looked up the iaaf site and they list only five permit meets in europe and one in the us (boston). in my lifetime i do not recall the last time there was only ONE scheduled world class meet in north america besides the usatf indoor championships ! i suspect many top athletes skipping indoors and concetrating on the outdoor season.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
I agree this one seems like the one most likely to go out of the lot imo .....in another thread i was asking about her 60m splits from her winning races .I think she will break it if she takes it seriously
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?No records yet.....of any kind.....that I know of...but.....
With the collegiate ranks firing up, and the high schoolers continuing to improve their marks, and with the Europeans set to go fairly soon, this SHOULD (could??) be a GREAT season for marks broken...... or at least getting on the Top 25 performers lists!! Best HS mark I've heard of is a 13-5 PV by a girl last weekend. There's also been a 4:48 mile. The collegiates MIGHT produce something this weekend. But WHEN will this site start posting a 2013 indoor list (for World, US, Collegiate, and HS)?? Or do you know what site to go to for 2013 indoor lists??
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? No one who is not named Bolt or Blake is breaking Fredericks' record, and I don't even know how they would fare. That's a massively impressive record.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?Mary Cain is entered in the UW Indoor Preview 3000 this weekend!!
But isn't the UW track oversize? That's where Jenny Simpson ran her 15:01 NON-record awhile back!! So even if Cain runs faster than Melody Fairchild's 9:17.4, it won't matter, except in the minds of those who think OT's are okay for record-breaking!! I don't!! So, as far as I'm concerned, WHATEVER Mary runs this weekend, it will be a wasted effort.......or at least no better than a self-timed time trial on some rutted pebbly high school track!!! ADDED on January 10th: In Jack Shepard's HS Track, it says: No marks made on oversize tracks (larger then 200 meters) are accepted for record purposes." As I said earlier, even if Mary Cain runs 8:50 or 8:58 or whatever, clearly better than Melody Fairchild's 1991 record, it will NOT be accepted as a HS record!! And that is a SHAME!!! Why did Salazar enter her in a race.....with a PACER, no less, who is set to run 4:56 for the 1st mile, thus setting Mary up to break the mark......when that mark will NOT count as a record?? Tell me, does anyone see Jenny Simpson's 15:01 5K, run on that same track, listed anywhere as the collegiate 5K mark?? This makes me SICK!!!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? We have our first (but surely not last!) record of the 2013 indoor season!!
Brianna Rollins of Clemson ran 7.78 in the 60H to break Ginny Crawford's old Collegiate Record of 7.84!! Way to go, Brianna!! (And this is just the first real weekend of collegiate meets!!)
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
Do you really think there is no point in running a race other than to attempt to break recognized records? That makes ME sick!!!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? Why? I do not think that the ultimate objective is the official high school record. If she runs 8:50, clearly it will be better than the 9:17 and no one will really care about the officiallity of the record.
Besides, maybe this way you do not have to record-breaking pressures in your first race-- and, the over-sized track is a bit easier on the legs.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
No, breaking records is NOT always the ultimate objective for running a race. But in the case of Cain racing the 3K on Seattle's OT, the fact they're providing (according to this site's front page article) a PACER to come through the mile in 4:56 (9:52 two mile pace....and with Mary's kicking ability, probably well under that!!) says (to me at least) she's intending to try for a record. If that is the case, I stand by what I said: Simpson's 15:01 on this track is NOT considered the CR!! Neither will Cain's (whatever "fastest" time she runs.....if she does!!) become the HSR!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
According to T&FN it is - it's just not the indoor record. And get over this weird Cain/record obsession.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
Well, T&FN and I totally disagree on indoor/outdoor records!! We're all entitled to our own opinions. There should be indoor records SEPARATE FROM outdoor records!! ("Fastest ever" is NOT a record!!) As for my "Cain/record obsession".....they're two separate things. I love seeing records (of ANY kind) broken!! Don't we all?? As for Mary Cain being the one to break them....I'm NOT "obsessed" with HER!!! I don't care WHO breaks the records!!!! If Sarah Baxter or some other great HS girl was running that 3K in Seattle, I'd be saying the exact same thing!!!! And why NOT want Mary (and ANYONE ELSE capable of breaking HSR's (or CR's, etc etc) to take advantage of their abilities....and try to set records??
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?First "official" record of the 2013 indoor season:
Penn State men sets new Collegiate 4 X 200 Relay record, time of 1:24.70, breaking old record of 1:25.05 (Rutgers, 2007). Stay tuned throughout the day!! Two (or FOUR) HSR's could be broken by day's end, with Edward Cheserek and Mary Cain making attempts on the one mile (and 1500??) records today at the New Balance meet at the Armory. And who knows what else might happen!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?and psu did it with gehret no longer enrolled at psu
yes, we are all waiting to see salazar has planned the talk of 4:25 the target for millrose makes me split the diff from 4:38.5 to 4:25 to expect 4:32-33 range mary does not just set a reccord she shatters them
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?Yamile Aldama apparently set an age 40 indoor record in the TJ with her mark in Glascow of 43-2 (13.16).
This thread is for WR's, AR's, CR's, and HSR's, but thought this worth mentioning. Also, Bernard Lagat's time of 7:53.36 is an age 38 indoor 3K record!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?4:32.78!!!!!
Four minutes, thirty two and 78/100th seconds!!! Mary Cain, age 16 years 8 months 23 days, SHATTERED the High School Record of 4:38.5, set by Debbie Heald in 1972, by 5.72 seconds!!! Was she timed enroute at 1500 meters?? If so, she CERTAINLY broke the HSR of 4:18.9 set by Lynn Jennings in 1978!! She HAD to have hit 1500 at about 4:15 or 4:16!! Way to go, Mary Cain!!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)Very impressive indeed.
I fear, however, that she will cause a worldwide shortage of exclamation marks. Those things don't grow on trees, you know.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)At just 16, it's reasonable to start thinking world Junior records for Cain. Mind-boggling
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?Agreed What about AreaR, AsiaR, EuroR, AJR, WYR, EuroJR, MSR, AsiaJR, AfrR, NHSFR, SAR, AfrJR, SAJR, AsiaYR, WJR, EuroYR, AfrYR, SAYR, AYR and/ or national records?!!??! I'd like to see those records in this thread as well?!,!..,?
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors?
4:16.11
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
3:51.34 4:17.57 8:28.83 Not likely.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
Thank you!! I hope that was her OFFICIAL time, and not just Salazar or her mom timing her!! TWO HSR's!!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
For your edification, allow me to post the correct world JUNIOR 1500/Mile indoor records 4:03.28 4:24.10 Please, in the future, read my post before replying. Thank you
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)all i say oregon 2014 willbe crazy
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)Cain quotes:
She was asked what it felt like running against pros. MC: "It was a little bit less stressful. I could come in last and still run super fast."
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
No problem, but you didn't state indoor records in your post. Maybe I should have assumed that's what you meant.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)Getting back to other records, Penn State's Cas Loxsom set a collegiate indoor 600 record this afternoon, running 1:15.79. He missed the AIR by .09 or, looked at another way, he missed it by a few hours--Duane Solomon ran 1:15.70 at about the same time of day, but Solomon was in Scotland, 5 hours ahead of State College.
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)So her splits were roughly
67 69 72 64!!! (oops, ran out of exclamation marks) My point being: the girl can close on a good pace! (oh, there was one left)
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)I'll leave Mary Cain to rest for a few minutes, while I relate THIS new American Indoor Record:
Galen Rupp......3:50.92 in the one mile, breaking Bernard Lagat's record of 3:51.34! This has been a GREAT day for record breaking! (Aside to Marlow: I have a backstock of exclamation points set to last THREE average human lifetimes!!!
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
Best line I've heard in awhile. Is it original?
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
I'd sure like to think so**** (*= exclamation marks to be inserted when new shipment arrives.)
Re: A Record Record Season Indoors? (Cain--4:32.78!!)
Isn't Lagat's record 3:49.89? http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records ... n&sport=TF
