I always appreciate threads like this one because I get new info/ideas -- e.g., never even heard of
Luther, which cooter brown mentioned above.
Agree w Flumpy re favourite year of TV. There really does seem to be an abundance of quality stuff out there -- more than I can keep up with. Most lists already posted include most of my favs, and also include several that I know are great, but that I hardly have time to keep up with. For instance, this morning I was kind of distressed to realize that
Justified and
Suits -- just to mention two of the many -- are starting new seasons. I'm not ready -- too busy! No way I will be able to keep up, and even being able to DVR everything won't help.
Here are a couple more I really enjoy that haven't been mentioned:
WallanderIn Plain Sight (which ended in 2012 -- weird as it sounds, I was relieved -- I thought it was a good series, and they wrapped it up well; that's one of the hazards of TV series, I guess.)
To add a slightly digressive point -- over the past several years, I feel like a lot of great writing has migrated from movies to TV. I know that movies are more variable, year to year -- 2012 being a great case in point -- a great year for movies. But, imo, for seriously engaging viewing (you know, that isn't track and field

), TV has many more high level options.
