I think Christina Manning should have gone pro. Kimberlyn Duncan is ready for the pros but I think she will be a Senior this year not sure whether or not she will be sticking around at LSU. I am looking forward to Harry Adams as well.

Duncan is still at LSU according to the 2013 roster. Manning signed with adidas after US trials

Is their any event more interesting then the Men's High Jump. When was the last time any event in college had 2 Olympic medalists competing in it.
Too boot the woman's High Jump has the Oly silver medalist who barring injury will smash the in-season collegiate records indoors and out!

I could be wrong, but I took hjfan's previous comment to mean "when was the last time any current event in college had 2 previous Olympic medalists competing in it?".

I think Johnson and Yang attended UCLA prior to the Olympics, but I'm not sure that Johnson competed again at UCLA after winning their Olympic medals in 1960, since Johnson first enrolled at UCLA in 1954, and the 1960 season made his sixth year at UCLA (after not competing due to a car accident in 1959)... And it certainly doesn't diminish their greatness, but I found it interesting that Yang and Johnson also had a possible age advantage over most recent collegians by being 27 and 25, respectively, at the time of the '60 Olympics.

maybe alexis faulknor of university of central florida might surprise, her times/ are good, but she has been injured in high school, so the good could turnnto very good this year, she has the genes her mother ann foster was a 4 time NCAA division 2 triple jump champ at abilene christain and her father chris faulknor ran on the 4 x 100 in the 1988 olympics.

maybe 11.2 for 100 sub 23 for 200, over 21 in the long jump and high 51 low 52 for her 4 x 400 split.

Yang and Johnson trained together at UCLA but never overlapped, Johnson having graduated before Yang arrived.

I would have thought turning pro in an Olympic year would have been better choice than 2013, unless you made the US team like McQuay did.

I also think Duncan and Gardner feel a sense of loyalty to LSU and Oregon after recruiting them as good athletes and now turning them into world beaters. In interviews both have spoken really fondly of their colleges and I am sure that makes any early departure harder to consider. Perhaps if they had made the US team in individual events it might have swayed them to go.

I am a big fan of Duncan, but after running 60 (!) races (solo and relays) before the Olympic trials, it was going to be hard to make the team against women who had run less than 20 in the same period. If she does the same again, I don' think we'll see her in a major champs till 2015.

The economic reality is that Duncan and Gardner (trying to crack a market with Jeter, Felix, et al, no USATF titles to their name) wouldn't have received anywhere near the inducement to go pro that McQuay (Merritt & Wariner with major question marks, no other likely successors on the horizon, and alredy the reigning national champion) did.

If they hung in there for the old school tie, all the more power to them, but the situations aren't the same.

I have told that Barrett Nugent is still living in Baton Rouge, training on the track at LSU, and yes he does plan to compete this year.
