The Google malware notice on ITG is part of bigger problem affecting several sites. We're totally clean and it is totally safe to visit ITG. We're working with Google to rectify the problem and hope everything will be back to normal soon. ITG works normally on internet explorer.
I got a tweet from yet another site that seemed to be having the same problem The tweet indicated that they had identified an ad that was causing the problem.
Meanwhile, I've had no trouble getting into the site for the past two days--no warnings, no blockage, unless I try to access it through Google. My browser is IE.
I am still getting the malware warning with Chrome on both of my computers. I have repeatedly scanned them thoroughly with Security Essentials and Malwarebytes with negative results. I even emptied the cache of temporary internet files/cookies. Why is the browser still reporting malware on T&FN website if everything seems to be in the clear?
Mump can't get on through computer at home or office. I'm fine on both computers.
Knowing nothing about this kind of thing and with him not able to come and get help himself could someone give me a really simple explanation of the best way to solve problem that I can pass on to him.
He's using Safari on laptop and Firefox at office.
I got back from 10+ days without internet and tried to get on and got the message on a firefox browser. Today at work I got in no problem, but we have lots of controls.
Sorry that I did not get to take part in the top-20, was gone except the first day and then was dealing with almost 20 inches of snow with plunging temps afterward as we were preparing to depart for a week and a half.
Relatively new (since '09) to computers, so will give you the basic elements of this malware problem from my POV:
1. Was on this site most of the day (off and on) on Friday, Dec 28. No problems. 2. Sometime in late afternoon (pacific time), was unable to access due to Google malware warning. Kept trying every few minutes throughout that night. 3. On Saturday (Dec 29), after many attempts to get on, went to T&FN Facebook site, and left a message there. Wondered why no one else was saying anything there!! 4. Same thing all day Sunday. Left 1 or 2 other messages on T&FN Facebook. 5. Monday, I believe, T&FN FB finally left a message, saying they were working on it with "due diligence". Someone else had asked what was happening. 6. Finally, just a few minutes ago, I gained access again......first time since last week!!
I got on just before NOT through Google, but through the link on T&FN Facebook page!! I clicked on the blue T&FN link at the bottom of the FB logo!! Sent me here.....no more malware warnings!! (I'd clicked on that same FB link numerous times the past 3 days.....always getting the Google malware block!!)
Just tried Googling T&FN....and got the same warning...and block!! So apparently....at least for me......the only entry to this site is through the T&FN Facebook page!!!
(Edit) Just tried again....to Google......same malware block!! So the ONLY way here seems to be the T&FN FB page!!
There's a note on the front page (in Day's Best Reading) that says they've solved the problem by removing the offending ad.
But as others have observed, there doesn't now appear to be any advertising at all here. That may be good for malware prevention, and some people may prefer not to have ads anywhere on this or any other website. But that's like preferring not to have commercials on tv shows. Somebody's got to pay the bill for this stuff. I would hate to see the financial viability of the site jeopardized by the absence of advertising revenue.
Whatever is going on, let's just hope it's temporary.

You couldn't click through by 'accepting' the warning (last option on the alert page)?
I don't know about aaronk, but until last night, I had to override 2 warnings for every prompt, but at least I could read posts even though it was time consuming.. If I tried to post anything though, clicking through the 2 warnings in order to submit my comment automatically erased the post before it was posted, and brought me back to a blank posting field every time...
I was getting a warning yesterday on my home computer, so I deleted all of my history and cookies and whatever else there is to delete. The warnings stopped coming up after the mass deletion.
Well, it was fixed for a couple of days. Now I'm getting the malware warning again, but this time only on Firefox. Last time it was on both Firefox and Chrome. Damn! Let's go back to the old days when we communicated via letters to the editor....uh, never mind.
I got hit on my cyberworld last year from the T&F NEWS Malware.Emails were being sent out to all my people regarding all types of things.I was deeply concerned about someone sending out porn, and even more disgustingly child porn or something.I had to change passwords, etc. And try to warn, and tell my people that I did'nt sell the general spam sales pitches etc that were sent without my permission.Looks like it is finally fixed.Thank God.
Several years ago, I returned from a trip to discover my email account had been frozen because someone had sent 10,000 pornographic spams using my screen name. It took a while but I was finally able to convince my carrier it warn't me..

These rogue posters are a threat to this site. I hope ADMIN can do something to stop them.
Just don't click on their posts, and if you accidentally do, don't click on any links in it and you'll be fine. They can't do anything to you unless you click a link, the message board software doesn't give them the capability to inflict any real harm unless you go to their links.

Thanks to everyone at T&F News for clearing this all up so quickly.
