Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance ListsWhat is confusing you about them Marlow? Per T&FN guidelines for preps, the outdoor season technically starts September 1st. There have been a few club and all-comers meets. I don't put outdoor marks on indoor lists.
The link to PVP has links to both the indoor and outdoor lists.
Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance Lists
I disbelieve!(?) Their outdoor prep lists run Jan 1 - Dec 31, does it not? Indoor lists, however, typically do start Dec 1. Later . . . I just went for a 3-mile run (ugh!) and it jarred some thoughts loose in my brain . . . A graduated senior can no longer be carried on HS lists as of 9/1, and an underclassman becomes the next grade higher on 9/1, but I still can't believe that if a junior were to set a HS record on 9/2, s/he wouldn't be listed on the year-end lists (esp. Jack Shepard's Annual (which, by the way, I just ordered today)) as the list leader. So a 9/2 mark would disappear until the NEXT year's lists??!!
Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance ListsMarlow, I can tell you is that Casey Carrigan jumped 17' in the 1968 Olympic Trials which was September of 1968, early fall of his senior year of HS. It counted as a mark for the 1968-1969 season (though he later bested it with a HSr). I don't know if it was a HS record at the time or not.
It's rare to have high schoolers competing in the Sep-Nov time period, and when they do, they generally improve on the marks between then and August 31st. It's generally been a non-issue by the end of the year.
Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance Lists
You win. His 17' jump was indeed a HSR, but was not listed in 1968's HS lists (but was listed in the 1968 Annual). That seems so odd to me - he was still in HS through 1969; the mark can't count as a 1968 HS mark, but it can as an 'open' mark??!! I just found another discrepancy! The age-18 HS best was listed as 17'1 by Paul Wilson, but the Sr. year record was 17'0 by CC. Wassup wid dat?!
Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance Lists
Maybe Paul Wilson was an 18-year-old junior?
Re: 2013 High School Pole Vault Performance Lists
Nope. He's not listed as the junior or senior record-holder, plus his best HS mark was 16'6 3/4. All I can think is that he was an 18-year-old college frosh and even though this was the HS annual, he holds the age-record. They don't include college marks in the HS Annual anymore.
