Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adamsno it's not; you didn't read what the copy under the headline said
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adamsthings tweaked to made it more followable... sorry for any confusion.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsCountdown to TrackFan4Ever/ilovetrack ripping T&FN for not picking Felix - 3...2...1...
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsMost interesting ratings:
Adams over Ennis SAFP and SRR being just 1 point apart Gelana making it, but T Dibaba not Pearson ranking as high as she did
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsWell I'll be danged. It is possible for a womens field eventer (even a thrower) to be athlete of the year. Good deal. Is this the same set of voters as a couple years ago
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsGo Kiwi.
The most dominant athlete for more than 2 years
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
I agree. Her season was amazing, but I think she is ranked way to high.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
did anyone below her set an Olympic record, thought the worst thing that happened to Sally was Harpers improvement, she closed the gap, also Sally had a bad back (reading between the lines) in the OG which is why she came home and did not run for the money afterwards. and she was incuded in the Queen's message clip ... so there
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsVal has done all there is to do for so long and against what many thought was a very questionable opponent
in this year where no other woman shone brightly above the pack, it was Val's time.. and is it possible for TFN to get her quote for when she finds out ... will be memorable to say the least
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsJust finished reading Valerie - the autobiography. It is an interesting read on many levels. One of the interesting take home messages was the increased level of athleticism she has achieved under her new coach and how that should translate into more 21m + throws in the future.

Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsExcellent choice! Way to go, Val! From silver to gold to AOY! Ditto on wanting to hear her reaction!
I am looking forward to the in depth analysis. I wonder if Perkovic had more 5's & 6's than SRR & SAFP, but maybe was left off some ballots. She kept climbing in my estimation as the season wore on. Actually, I think she kept her level of excellence steady throughout the year, but kept climbing as more and more people noticed said level of excellence.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsWOOP WOOP
The obvious and right decision well done T&FN I don't think Pearson is too high the only one on that list who deserved to be above her is maybe Perkovic who was totally dominant, SR was too slow and SAF was too inconsistent. I'm disappointed not to see Lashmanova on the list at all, what more are you supposed to do than set WR while winning OG Gold ?!!
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsWOWSA!!!
At some sanity is brought to proceedings. Nice work T&FN. GO VAL!!!
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsNo comment.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsLooking at the full list.......
Felix and Richards are too high. Perkovic and Suhr are WAY too low. Zaripova shouldn't be anywhere near the list (Three races does not make a season). Lashmanova was robbed. Overall really good job though.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
Lashmanova had 3 races
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsLashmanova didn't get robbed by me: I had her as No. 4.
It probably helped that I was perhaps the only voter who saw the performance in person? Because of insane scheduling, even though I bolted out the door before the rest of the 20 even finished, I made it into the stadium only in time to see the last 120 meters of the men's 5K final. Did get to hear the roar for the whole thing starting from a mile away though.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
I know but three 20k races is somewhat different to three 3k races and how many proper chances do walkers get anyway? Zaripova's 3 race season was, well probably the less said about it the better. An Olympic Gold with a WR should ensure anyone gets a top 10 ranking.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsWhat pisses me off is that more than 24 hours after the announcement of Valerie being AOY there is still not a single mention of it in the NZ media as I sit here surfing NZ news sites from LA.
Not even on www.athletics.org.nz the official web site of NZ Athletics. But then what can one expect from an organisation that didn't even enter Valerie in the 2012 Olympic women's shot.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
Lashmanova was robbed but Zaripova shouldn't be anywhere near the list?
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adamspretty reasonable list
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
Zaripova ran the 3rd & 5th best performances ever in the event. She had three races under 9:10, which I believe nobody had ever done before. She ran faster than anyone else had since the Beijing Olympics. I think she did enough.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
If 3 races is enough to assess a season, why isn't Cakir mentioned ??
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsShe had no all-time credentials, and also didn't dominate the yearly list the way Z did. Their seasons aren't remotely comparable.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
It's much easier to get all time credentials in the very new and under developed steeple than it is on the Chinese dominated 1500m Anyway i thought times were the last thing to be considered in these things. Cakir won Olympic and European titles and beat everyone in Paris. I'm not saying she should be ranked or that she should be above Zaripova, just that her complete and sanctioned dismissal is, interesting just sayin
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adamsnothing "interesting" about it; it's pure and simple by the numbers.
And don't confuse AOY criteria with how we do the World Rankings.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
The event may be new, but it has been contested regularly at Diamond League meets for the past 3 seasons, with participation by the top steeplers in the world, and nobody has run as fast as she did.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adamsmump is also apparently unaware of the fact that T&FN stats don't include marks from the Chinese National Games of '93 and '97 (the two with obvious "irregularities"), and Alptekin didn't make a dent in a list with those revised numbers either.
(see our all-time lists elsewhere on the site, with the Chinese marks given the heave-ho)
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsThat's all well and good. But is is a bit like saying "surf's up at Long Beach". The #1 tv station in NZ is TV One. The 2 main sports radio stations are Newstalk ZB and Radio Sport. Our main newspaper is the NZ Herald. Even now, none of them have mentioned Valerie's being TnF News AOY.
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie AdamsSo is that a slight on us, or a sad commentary on a declining state of the sport in en-zed?
Re: T&FN's Women's AOY..... Valerie Adams
the second. TnF News AOY has, IMO, more worthiness/credibility than IAAF AOY
