Four-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin will swim her senior season of high school

'Imagine LeBron James driving the lane against 17-year-olds. Ray Lewis busting through the line on a Friday night football game. Usain Bolt stepping into the blocks at an after-school track meet. Justin Verlander firing fastballs at kids who are preparing for proms. Terrifying, right? Now you've got an idea of what opponents of four-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Missy Franklin will be facing this winter.

Franklin will be rejoining her Regis Jesuit High School team this season for an abbreviated schedule. Yes, an Olympian going back to swim at high school.'

A wild guess, but I'd expect that her school records will last awhile.

I get the Usain comparison, but not the others. I thinks it's a win-win.
HS sports are MOSTLY about the social aspects.

I expect her teammates are kind of happy to have her on the team.

I don't follow swimming at all, so I have no idea how dumb this question is: how would Franklin do in her premier events against your "average" HS boy?

Looking at her 200 Back time: 2:00
and then at the Florida boys HS list, I see 2:00 would make her top 3 in the state (??!!)

Am I reading this right?

Link?

In some states, the times are all in yards, so make sure to compare apples to apples. My bet is she would beat most of the boys in the state. There can be a big difference in comparing short course times with long course, so it is not always so easy to compare times you might see for her in elite level competition with high school times.

Well, her world record 200 back time was 2:04.06 and yes the comparison is for same course and distances. So many other states I see is in yards. So that WR swim would have garnered her 3rd in all swimmers in Florida for boys of that age. Some of the other events, like freestyle, it appears should would have more of a difficult. Surprising to see how fast some of these young kids are!!

Of course, she may also not get to that top level condition in HS competitions.
