Bolt's first ever 100mI know there must have been over a thousand topics on Usain Bolt on this site, but i was recently mulling over how Bolt transformed significantly during the '07 off-season training for '08. Many have it that his first 100m was in kingston in early '08 ( 10.03s) but then i recall that he had in fact run a 10.03 in Greece a year earlier, but to this date i have never seen a video of that race. Does anyone out there have a vid of it?
Re: Bolt's first ever 100mYes, his 1st race was in Réthimno, but i never seen that video.
It would be interesting really
Re: Bolt's first ever 100mBolt ran 100s while at William Knibb High School, but was a 200/400 specialist in his last two years on the team, 2002 and 2003.
In 2000 he ran the heats of the 100 (under 15) and at the Jamaica Boys' Champs. He ran 12.61 into a 8.5mps gale, and did not advance to the semi-finals. I've yet to find 2001 Boys' Champs results.
Re: Bolt's first ever 100m"It was not until his third year at high school, in 2001, that Bolt won his first medal at the annual high school championships, finishing second in 22.04."
http://www.iaaf.org/news/athletes/newsid=36356.html That's the 200m, of course.... That's the first race he mentions in his book 'Usain Bolt: My Story' (p59). He then talks about running the 200/400 double at the 2001 Carifta Games in Barbados. Surely, if he was doing the double then, he wouldn't be running the 100m at Boys Champs in 2001?
Re: Bolt's first ever 100m
Probably not, but that's not the same as knowing. And I've only found Boys' Champs, not the rest of his school season leading up to Champs for those years.
Re: Bolt's first ever 100mHis next 100 meters turned out to be a 09.76. My first was a 11.05 and the second was
10.98. The difference being no Yams and cold weather.
Re: Bolt's first ever 100m
corrected
Re: Bolt's first ever 100m
Bolt's third 100m since leaving high school was 9.76, not his second. He ran 10.03 in 2007, then 10.03 again in early 2008. Were you already a sub-21.7 second 200m sprinter before your first 100m? If not, that's the most important difference, muxh more important than yams and weather. Remember that Bolt already ran 19.75 before his first 10.03, and his 9.76 was almost a year after the 19.75.
Re: Bolt's first ever 100mStill no vids, it must be a best kept secret! i saw the 9.92 in Trinidad after the 9.76 and he 'walked' the last 20m. Mindyou, his form in the first 70m wasn't all that great either.
Re: Bolt's first ever 100m
Do you have the video of his 9.92?
