2013: Hopes and PredictionsSo 2012 is wrapped and in the books. I am sure the saga will continue right where it left off. What is everyone looking forward to seeing or predict that they will see?
I know for me that I see and wish a couple things happenng. 1. I see Allyson Felix doing a lot more 100's. She benefited grealty by improving her start and saw a massive PR and I don't think she is going to move away from that yet. I think she holds the 100 in high regards and wants to master it. I don't see her entering Carmelita and Shelly's territory but with enough training she could become a regular sub 11 girl and see a new pr in the 10.8 low region. 2. I hope to see Sanya tackle the 100 and 200 more. I think she needs a sub 22 on her resume at least more than once. In theory a sub 11 sub 49 girl should run sub 22. 3. I hope to see alot of people return to form. Tyson Gay showed he still has it in the 100 when healthy and hopefully we can see him in the 200 and gasp maybe the 400 down the road. Walter Dix needs to return as a solid medal contender in the 200. Sherrone Simpson and Kerron Stewart need to start lighting up Kingston's track again(all the time). I pray that Jeremy Wariner has a few good years left. How a mid 43 guy can fall off so drastically while still fairly young is unfortunate. 4. I would like to see a couple people tackle new events. I feel Wallace Spearmon has the potential to be a good 400 runner. His late surges on the straight show that he usually has alot left in the tank but his start usually puts him at a defecit. I feel Sherone Simpson could make a great 400 runner as well. She is one of the few non 400 specialists that manages to run 51 low off of general preparation training so I wonder what else she could manage to do with more specified 400 training. This wish is probably very likely to come true. I would like to see Shelly Ann Fraser run the 60m indoor and break the world record. There is no reason why she can't. I would love to see Bolt run some 400's on the circuit simply for fast times. 5. I would love to see some records fall. With Blake on the come up Bolt will have to push himself into new territory if he wants to keep his legend status instead of being a retired legend. 9.5x might soon be what is needed to win championships so the 100 record might fall. Ditto with the 200. Of course Flo Jo's 10.49 will be going no where anytime soon. Why? Because not even Flo Jo would have been able to match her record much less beat it. I feel the battle to become second fastest women of all time should be where the focus is at. If Shelly works on her start during the indoor season and does 200 meter training in the outdoor season we may well see 10.60 flat and savvy track fans know that would be the real world record. I think the womens 400 and 800 meter record could.....uhmmm never mind.

Prediction: PEDs in the news Hope: Athletes dazzle and inspire us with with hard work and virtuoso performance. Prediction: Athletes dazzle and inspire us with with hard work and virtuoso performance.
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsWell, very interesting discussion:
1) Athletes who are injured/have problems to bounce back. I hope to see Asafa running again in the 9.7 territory and maybe have another try at the 60 metres wr. This winter his start was the worst I have ever seen by him but this summer he had again his bullet start so it would be interesting to see what he could do. Same with David Oliver, I'd love to see him back to his 2010/indoor 2011 form and to challenge (at least a bit) Aries Merritt. In my opinion both Liu and Robles are done or nearly done. 2) Bolt and Rudisha to give 400 metres a try. Not necessarily one against each other, but would like to see both of them try a 400 during the season when in good shape (if Duane Solomon or others can run 400s while shouldn't Rudisha?). Would love also seeing Rudisha going for 600 (not 1000) and Bolt going for 300 metres world records in Ostrava. 3) Anna Chicherova to finally beat Stefka's 2.09 by jumping 2.10, maybe during the world championship final in Moscow, pushed by a returned Blanka Vlasic, and the other girls who could go over 2.00 metres. Renaud Lavillenie to jump in the 6 metres territory more often and Holly Bleasdale back to her indoor form. 4) Carmelita Jeter to approach Florence Griffit's records and Blake approaching Bolt's ones. 5) Some challenges over "strange distance"... e.g. Bolt vs Rudisha (400), Merrit vs Bolt (300)... It's a shame they never happen. 6) Allyson Felix not to run 100s and to give 400 a serious try. She could well be in the 48s territory. And many other things!
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsWhat I HOPE to see, and what I WILL see are almost certainly going to be two COMPLETELY different things!!
That said, here's a FEW things I HOPE to see...... Mary Cain run 4:05 for 1500, 4:25 for the mile, and FINALLY beat Lynn Bjorklund's "ancient" 3000 mark of 9:08.6 from 1975!!! And I hope she smashes through the 9:00 barrier in doing so!! Either Cain or another great HS'er to seriously go after both the 5K (15:48) and 10K (32:52) HSR's!!! If necessary, do it in a summer all-comers meet!!! Brianna Nerud to run 9:30 in the SC, becoming one of America's best in her FRESHMAN year!!! Cayla Hatton to run a 10K in 32:30 or better, also a 5K in sub-15:30. Evan Jager to go under 8:00 in the SC, and run a sub 13:00 in the 5K. Jessica Ennis to go over 7000 in the Hept, and run a 12.45 or better in the 100H, becoming one of the WORLD's elite!! NO.....or at least FAR FEWER.....distance races in championship meets JOGGED for 90% or more of the race!! Geb to go back on the track after turning 40 in April, and CRUSH all the age-40 records....from 3K up to 10K. THEN....go after the 40-plus marathon mark!! Stacy Dragila to make a temporary comeback, and CRUSH the 40-plus PV mark!! There's probably more, but I need to get some breakfast in me!!
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsI hope there will be a beautiful resurrection for the US men's 400m tradition after its disastrous London OG...
Re: 2013: Hopes and Predictionsi hope to see jim ryun's american junior records at 800, 1500 and mile broken, they have been around 46 years and with the superior coaching and technology available now those records are long overdue.
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsEaton: 6800 indoors and 9100 outdoors.
Re: 2013: Hopes and Predictions
I hope Dobrynska threw shot beyond 18m according to what she have said in practice, dafne schippers can enhance steadily ,running around 11.00s and 22.30s , along with scoring about 6600p in hep,as well as Sara Gambetta will make a good recovery with 6200p hep ,adding to 16m SP, Tompson of GBR shine up the hep and LJ both, Then Adams is capable of tossing 21.50m about ,Ostyapchuk eventually got a good performance, and so on.
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsLagat: another AR and another world medal.
Centro: sub-3:30 and another world medal. Jager: sub-8 and world medal. Rupp: world medal in 10K and sub-12:55 in 5K. Flanagan: Boston marathon title. Dibaba: another world title (or two) on track or first marathon in sub-2:20. ... more later.
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsSame i think SRR has a lot of potential in the shorter sprints, for someone whose training is endurance based rather than speed, 10.97/22.09 is impressive. Sadly in an interview she said she's chasing 400m times in 2013

Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsHopes:
GB to win two 4x4 medals USA not to win men's 4x400m Uceny to stand up British middle distance runners to learn tactics Jess try the hurdles a bit more James to lower 400m time while winning 4x400m Gatlin to get busted again Apart from that no positives
Re: 2013: Hopes and PredictionsFor GB
Ennis to go 7000+ (I dont think it will happen) and win the world championships. See something great from Jodie Williams (no idea how she is after injury) Jack Green to medal at the worlds and Dai (possible but to early to say) GB Relay medals? I see the men's 400m with a chance and the men's 100m with an outside chance and the women's 400m with no chance unless Emily Diamond proves to much better than Lee McConnell. Chrissie O to get another world gold (50/50). Jess Judd to have a great world championships and run the 800m under 2 minutes (good chance). Desiree Henry to continue improving. British meddle distance runnes to learn some tactics and how to read a race. They are like midde distance SEN at times. Bleadale to medal. Paula Radcliffe returns to top form (unlikley or unknown) Adam Gemili runs sub-10 and well under it. Global: The new crop of Hetathletes to continue their impressive improvement. Russia to have a good worlds and top the table (I expect the USA to do so) Bolt to break the world record (hope and expect) Galen Rupp to win world gold (A prediction as early season reports say he is in great form while Farah is starting late in training and well behind) Natalya Antyukh to break the 400mH world record (possibe circumstances and conditions pending) Morgan Uceny to medal at the worlds. Brigetta Barrett world medal and continue her improvement. Tyson Gay comes back into top form. Tianna Madison challenges as America's best sprinter. Isinbayeva breaks more world records
