Re: Chicago MarathonJeez - Kebede was sprinting at the end - sub-2:05!! [2:04:39 unofficially]
Ritz 2:07 [Gangnam playing in the streets of Chinatown Last edited by Marlow on Sun Oct 07, 2012 6:42 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Chicago MarathonThank you for posting the link. I missed my breakfast for this. It was an excellent race with Kebede in 2:04's. Ritz did 2:07.50!
Thank you NBC for showing it online. NBC did not put the clock on the screen so most of time I have no idea what the times were. Guys goes to finish line and the announcer gives the time but no time is shown for him and they did not show time for any top male finishers. Thank you again.
Re: Chicago MarathonKebede's splits - 62:55/61:43.
Re: Chicago MarathonThese partial & of course unofficial results gleaned from RW.com's coverage:

Re: Chicago MarathonJoanie, I very much doubt it will be a sprint. They can barely pick their feet off the ground!
Re: Chicago MarathonA photo-finish for the women ??!! 2:22:03? Baysa (sp?)
And yes, it was a sprint at the end, but a ghastly one. Last edited by Marlow on Sun Oct 07, 2012 6:55 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Chicago MarathonReally hard push the second half. 2:04:39
2:07:50 for Ritz, who was going hard, picking up the pace until after 35, where he faded a bit, losing his chance at a 2:06; still faster than his coach's 2:08:15 (slightly short) NYC PR. Top 3 are Ethiopian; so more Kenyan monopoly. 41 at the start, mid-40s at the end. Still a three-woman race Ritz 2:07:47!!!! Pos. Name (CTZ) City, State BIB Division Age Overall Pace Est.Finish Diff Time 1 Kebede, Tsegaye (ETH) 5 25 04:46 - +00:00 02:04:38 2 Lilesa, Feyisa (ETH) 6 22 04:46 - +00:14 02:04:52 3 Regassa, Tilahun (ETH) 17 22 04:47 - +00:48 02:05:26 4 Kitwara, Sammy (KEN) 16 25 04:49 - +01:15 02:05:53 5 Korir, Wesley (KEN) 2 29 04:49 - +01:35 02:06:13 6 Kipyego, Bernard (KEN) 3 26 04:50 - +02:01 02:06:39 7 Ndungu, Samuel (KEN) 12 24 04:52 - +02:48 02:07:26 8 Yami, Dadi (ETH) 7 30 04:53 - +03:05 02:07:43 9 Ritzenhein, Dathan (USA) 15 29 04:53 - +03:09 02:07:47 10 Dawit, Shami (ETH) 8 28 04:55 - +04:01 02:08:39 great finish for the women.
Re: Chicago MarathonBaysa's pretty incredible. She's only 25 but it was her nineteenth career marathon. Equals her PB of 2:22:04.

Re: Chicago Marathon
Excellent result for her! Here's a comment from the RW interview from 3 weeks ago: "I hope to be, at the end, under 2:28." So, that result must feel pretty good. (side note -- in the pic of her in the RW interview, she looks more like a multi eventer...) Two other USA women round out the top 10 with good result for each: 9. Dot McMahan 2:32:11 (her PB is 2:31:50) 10. Stephanie Pezzullo 2:32:42 (debut) Last edited by Master Po on Sun Oct 07, 2012 7:19 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Chicago Marathon
Commentary"s not her strong point, is it ?
Re: Chicago MarathonSome revision to USA all-time lists:
Ritz now #3. (behind Khannouchi & Hall, or Hall & Khannouchi if you prefer) Metivier-Baillie now =#8. (behind Kastor, Samuelson, Flanagan, Goucher, Davila, Lewy-Boulet, Runyan, =Hastings. Or, she's #11, if you include the "aided course" times of Brown, Jones, & Hastings.)
Re: Chicago Marathon
Yea, it was pretty weird. Searching for words, etc. Never one of the best but really bad this time.
Re: Chicago Marathon1:01:44 second half. Last 10k in 29:23.
Re: Chicago Marathonone other USA marathoner note from this race:
16. Jeff Eggleston 2:12:03 (1:09 PB) So far this year, he has run 2:15 (March), 2:14 (May), 2:13 (June), and now 2:12 (October). I think he has a 2:11 in his future...
Re: Chicago Marathon
Shame on both of you!! She's just carried away in her enthusiasm and can't find the exact words to convey her excitement.
Re: Chicago Marathon
!! Like, um, !!!!!!!!
Re: Chicago Marathon
Say what? That is a silly statement. It just a marathon and not a super fast one, for the women, at that. Samuelson is a fine athlete and nice roll model but, she is not Joan of Arc.
Re: Chicago Marathon
Apparently the placing of my tongue ever so slightly in my cheek was difficult to discern . . . Must I ALWAYS use that inane smilie emoticon??!! Joannie is awesome and to quibble with her commentary is just as "silly" in my book. She's much better than some commentators we all know, huh? She can comment to me on races all she wants!
Re: Chicago MarathonBTW I had no idea Mariya Konovalova once had cancer. I always wondered why she had no results after being a really good track runner in the mid/late 90s (under her maiden name of Pantyukhova) until she returned in 2006-07.
Re: Chicago Marathon
Yes, always use a Well, yes compared to Carol Lewis, Saint Joan is Eric Sevareid. But I still think it is time to move on. Though on the female side, no obvious candidates come to mind. Maybe they could just have a robot on the motorcycle...or a female manikin with a speaker and Hutchings could just talk through it.
Re: Chicago MarathonIf we could steal Katharine Merry from the English......
Re: Chicago MarathonI'm surprised by all of the "!!!'s" by folks in discussing Ritz's time. I know the financial reasons for continuing to run the marathon, but even after today's performance leap, it seems clear that his sweet spot more likely falls between 5000 and half-marathon than in the longer event.
Re: Chicago MarathonRitz in the Tribune today that he didn't want to try to go from 2:09 down to 2:04 in one hop. Which makes sense. I suppose next time he can go with the leaders and see what happens.
But I agree with your premise. It is a tough world out on the marathon scene.
Re: Chicago Marathon
Ndungu ran 2:07:04 in Otsu in March, so is neither PR nor debut Dawit is experienced marathoner; think generally known as Abdullah Dawit Shami
Re: Chicago MarathonDawit has run sub-2:06 twice this year so definitely not a debut.
And if we're being picky, it wasn't really Kitwara's debut as he ran in Rotterdam but dropped out just before the 27km mark with a calf injury.
Re: Chicago Marathon
and she is a great singer, here she is singing a tribute to ethiopian runners. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzaW-ozVCrI
