523 races without a win!

That seems to be the current record of Teddy Roosevelt!

That is a problem when you have real life figures as props. Someone will get upset. For example, who really cares what sausage wins in the Brewers hot dog race?

They probably could do a monument race. But even that might cause problems. What if the White House always beat the Capitol Building? What if the Capitol Building decided to filibuster and not compete? What if the Supreme Court Building decided it was invalid? So many questions.

Teddy Wins! Bully for TR! The Washington Nationals (Montreal Expos) win the pennant too.

Nor do I, but Mr. G pointed me to this source, which attributes the quote to Charley Dryden, former Sports Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle:

Here's another source that says the same thing:

Having been at the game and sitting right at the finish line, I must say the race was quite dramatic.

I think Teddy stepped over the line a couple times on the turn, but seeing as how he had been left in the blocks, he did not interfere with anyone else and thus it was a legitimate win.
The rafters shook, the crowd went wild and it put Mo's 5000 win to shame.

Now we just have to wait to hear if USADA gives the ok.

Call me a cynic but does anyone else suspect the result of these races may be pre-determined?

Charley Dryden. Started with the SF Chronicle, but really made his bones in baseball while writing for papers in NYC, Philly and Chicago.

He was the greatest of the baseball writers of the sport's first 50 years, preceding Hughie Fullerton, Ring Lardner, and still later, Red Smith.

It wasn't just that gem. Dryden coined much of the language from the deadball era. Probably the most famous is "pinch hitter."
