Moscow 2013--Ticket Sales?

Postby bruce3404 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:25 pm

Pretty much zero info out there on Moscow 2013. Berlin and Daegu put their tickets on sale exactly a year before the beginning of the meet. For Moscow, that date would be 10 Aug, 2012, less than two months from now, yet they have no info regarding ticket sales and the single email I sent to the organizing committee received no response. Daegu did a much better job keeping fans in touch, even though the hotel situation wasn't addressed very well until late in the game. The Moscow booth in Daegu was pretty useless with a few characters hanging around acting like they didn't want to be there and supplying zero information.

Tried again and this time got a response, though not much info:

Thank you for contacting us. Once the tickets are on sale I'll let you know.
In the meantime feel free to contact me with any additional questions you
might have!
Thank you,

Does anyone have a website for iaaf moscow 2013? Or for that matter any contact information on tickets for the event.
I have totally struck out on finding anything out.

There is a website, but it's a complete zero, especially when compared with Daegu or Berlin. FWIW, here you go: http://www.iaaf.org/news/newsid=62616.html
This is the IAAF page with links and email contact info.

How does it compare with places like Oslo or Tokyo?

Equivalent, I think. But check last minute deals in all three and I think you'll find Moscow to not be so bad. One place I won't book well in advance, respecting the fact that larger groups have less wiggle-room.

the iaaf site said the official moscow site would be up late october..

that was about a month ago

t&f news did have two hotels, but i heard a rumor the coutryard marriott was canned and became a media hotel

so untili hear officially the courtyartd is still in t&f tours, then i'd believe othwrwise

i worked with a women who went to moswcow state university, and says moscow is ok, but raves over st pete

i do knoe they have an excellent metro system, but it's all in cyrillic

luzniki is at sportanaya about 5-6 stop on the red line direct to the central tourit area which includes

ecent weather has been a bit cool, more like eugene 40s to low 60s, byt early august it was mid 50s to low 80s then the weather suddenly chages

guess napoliean and hitler could tell us all about it

Is that in Russian, because I couldn't find any such info on the English page. Do you know how the sales will be handled? Hoping they can make it as easy to buy online as was both Berlin and Daegu.

Here are the weather reports from Accuweather for the dates of the MoskvA WC next year:

8/10 71 51 f (fog)
8/11 71 55 r
8/12 71 55 f
8/13 75 53 pc (partly cloudy, not Politically Correct! >:-)
8/14 64 57 r
8/15 75 60 r
8/16 71 59 f
8/17 69 59 f
8/18 69 59 pc

What's with all the fog?
Of course, that has very little predictive value, but it's a possible scenario. Would beat the hell out of Osaka, anyway.

the early august weather was low 80's and somewhat humid

at least humid for europe

then there was a big rain spellmid augyst, and ever since it's been unusuallycooler and wet which is the autumn pattern

my rissiam friend says this is a bit early, usually mid september

the warmish early august is more normal

my friend is jewish and left russia pre 1990

and the cost to get out was quite high..

one for israel, one for usa, one for australia

on an asied note

DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITHE THE LOCALS

OR DO SO AR YOUR OWN RISK

bad things can happen, and the legal system can be sczry

just tyink of pussy riot

I haven't certain information about that, but I think it will be as easy as it was at the previous WC. I see no reason, that it would be different. And you shouldn't think, that in Russia everything is bad with this. Moscow and other cities hosted big tournaments in different sports many times in recent years. And there was no problems.

I wasn't implying that everything in Russia is bad with distribution, however the information thus far isn't as good as it was prior to the last two Worlds. In fact, the tickets for the last two Worlds went on sale a year in advance. I trust that the Russian Federation will do a good job once they put the tickets on sale and look forward to visiting Moscow.

Thanks. Better bone up on my Cyrillic. Funny that when you go for the English translation, that info doesn't show up (or I've missed it). Thanks to you and Baykal for deciphering and keeping us posted.

The article has some other interesting info, as well. They are re-surfacing (Mondo) the track and jump runways; the main-stadium track is going to be light blue (голубого цвета). There will also be new natural-grass surfaces for the throws. They will test the new facilities at the "Moscow Challenge" on June 11 and the Russian championships during the first half of July. The walk course was already used for this year's Russian championships, and the marathon course will be used next May.

Then there's a lot of hoo-hah about this committee and that committee and Valentin Balakhnichev, the design of the medals and the "official poster". I don't see anything about the very most important issue of all: the mascot!!!! >:-)

When there is more news posted at Rusathletics.com, you can bet I will be on it like stink on shit! >:-)

I suspect, if you tried at all to learn the Cyrillic alphabet (or at least the subset of St. Cyril's alphabet used for Russian), that you'd find it isn't all that difficult. I'm by no means fluent in the Russian language, as my wife can readily attest, but learning the alphabet, and even becoming a "touch typist" with it, was a surprisingly quick process.

Here's a good place to start: http://www.alphadictionary.com/rusgrammar/alphabet.html

To be more precise, Moscow is 3 hours ahead of London in the summer, 4 hours ahead in winter. Russia no longer uses summer time.

You're not quite right. It is conversely. Actually we are using summer time the whole year. So if earlier Moscow has GMT+4 in summer and GMT+3 in winter, now always GMT+4.
And I compare with Greenwich time, not with London time. London has GMT+1 in the summer.

Nothing new on tickets, no new IAAF website, no nuthin', and I check every day. However, Ludus Tours has posted prices for their packages, which implies that they have some idea how much tickets are going to cost.

We can safely assume tickets will not be cheap, as in Daegu last year. It seems to me we paid 1300 Euros or s.t. like that in Berlin, 2009, but who remembers that far back?

I dug back into older news items on RusAthletics about the Worlds, and found this:

На заседании оргкомитета было отмечено, что для участников и гостей мирового первенства должна действовать система упрощенного получения въездных виз на территорию РФ.

Roughly, "At the meeting of the organizing committee it was noted that for the participants and guests of the WC there should be a simplified system to receive entry visas to the territory of the Russian Federation."

Don't know whether "guests" includes us. The prior sentence referred to athletes and official delegations.

I'm sending another e-mail to RusAthletics asking about tickets for individuals and whether the visa process will be streamlined. I read on a travel website message thread that someone thought tickets for individual sale would not be available until next March. Hope that's not true. At least since Osaka, there have always been online ticket sales around one year ahead.
Cheers,

I was recently told by a fairly reliable source that tickets should be on sale in October. I don't have any info about prices, but I suspect that tickets will not be as expensive as they were in Berlin.
